The latest Pretty Cure movie event, Precure All-Star Movie F (Toei Animation, 2023) ranks up with the All-Star Movies after the New Stage trio, definitely after Haru no Carnival (2015).  Yes, all the Precure possibly were included in this latest movie, but you had to look fast or hit that pause button again and again and again. But we are engaged in the problem of dealing with 77 Pretty Cure.  Or was it 78? Or 79?  Wait, I saw Cure Echo (New Stage 1, 2012) around the 62-64 minute mark ... so, maybe 80 cures.  Give or take a few. The whole premise of this flick is how to defeat the irrepressible magic girls.  The plot is simple.  Invite the girls to a world, become one of them, study their essence, and when you believe that you have destroyed the enemy, reveal who the real enemy is ... and wham 'em before they can figure out how to overcome impossible odds and win the ultimate in last battles.  Such is the plot of Cure Supreme and her unwilling sidekick Puka, a quivering, cowardly entity who does have power but refuses to use it to destroy.  Destroying is Cure Supreme's thing. The movie emphasized the cures of the second decade of Precuria, dividing the five members of Hirogaru Sky! PC among four made-up teams of cures, C. Flora of Go! Princess PC being the most veteran.  They struggle through various environments to get to the castle where Cure Supreme reveals she is a super-powered semi-divine entity out to prove her stuff by destroying the world and all the Pretty Cures to boot.  Signal all the first decade Pretty Cure for the battle against Supreme, allied by Cure Puka who has discovered her true powers not to destroy but to protect (the customary standing in the gap between Supreme and the only cures standing, which is, of course, C. Sky and C. Prism).  The new formula of the All-Star movie is to try to use all the girls, but showcase the recent team. The animation is exquisite from the cosmic battles to the revamped transformation sequences as new teams pop into play.  The closer has Sora (C. Sky) walk through the streets of the city as images of former cure teams from Maxheart to Delicious Party PC flashes on the sides of the buildings.  It is an epic quest to spot all the magic girls, but the closing dance routine (also a Pretty Cure formula piece) gives you that big chance for you to bang on the pause button in search of the favorite cures and teams.  The music, always stirring, still has this remarkable way of not being all that memorable. The latest Precure All-Star Movie F is a rare bird.  With the growing ranks of magic girls, it is increasingly more difficult to share the time equally as was done in Haru no Carnival (approaching 50 girls scattered between 10 teams).  Look for the next epic adventure in five years, with possible team-ups offered as special projects as Kibou no Chikara.  One can't but help but admire girls who can get knocked down but get back on their feet and refuse to lose.
