Gleipnir - Reviews

I can only assume that the reviewers who are giving low scores for this anime fail to remember that it's sci-fi/fantasy. For example, there's no reason to knock the show because it has a very large, absurd, powerful dog doll as one of the characters. It's fantasy, so the writers can make the thing look however they want. But even if these people demand some logic about the dog doll, it's possible that an explanation will be provided in season 2, assuming there is one. The story of the doll is touched upon, but I don't want to say anything about it for fear of a spoiler.

The only truly annoying part for me is one that's common to so many action shows: One or more people try to kill someone. That person needs to defend himself, but can't bring himself to kill the killer/s even though they'll kill him. For some reason writers believe that this is a wrong. But then, if he finally does kill the people who wanted to kill him, he whines about the terrible thing he did for the next 3 episodes.

There are plenty of unanswered questions at the end, so if you need to have everything wrapped up by the end of the season this probably isn't for you. It definitely needs another season and I'll be pretty annoyed at how things were left if they don't.

Furry Fantasy with all the other shitty clichdes and incel fan service that pollutes an art medium. Was waiting to see if the story was compelling enough to sit through furry ball fondling and sex for sex sake, but the plot was just as out of thin air. Aliens pop out because that is an easy explanation for supernatural powers and other shapeshift fetish BS. The lead girl is of course a sadist mean girl that is being chased by MC because she is "hot". Story in a nutshell the furry simp does anything for a mean girl until she chooses to kill him. If you like anime like gleipnir that goes no where watch elfen lied where another simp sacrifices his family for a serial killer. If you want to see a good incel anime try welcome to the nhk it is more grounded and has a moral to respect your accomplishements and change your bad habbits not just for others but for yourself.

I liked this anime. Perhaps it was better to put the viewer into action more, because the anime was sometimes very chaotic. I would also appreciate better graphics. Compared to other animes, I can't value Gleipnir better than 6/10. I didn't like the main character Clair at all from the beginning, I didn't find her sympathetic. Even Schuichi's character could have been different, because I started to feel sorry for him, nothing more and nothing less, any emotiones and any feelings for him. I expected more. But on the other hand, I'd like to add that at least a little originality has definitely been retained, and if you like adventurous anime, I suggest you look at Gleipnir. Don't expect anything extra from that, though.

Two grotesque, monstrous, and slimy heads are better than one!

Two teenagers, one cursed with the power to transform into a supernatural dog-mascot-monster, and the other with a near sociopathic demeanor, team up to compete in a murderous game to win the ultimate prize.

Good:

Excellent animation. Not at the level of Mob Psycho or One Punch Man season 1, however, there are many small illustrated details that make the world of Gleipner pop. Character movements flow well and seem natural, leaves, hair, and grass blow in the wind, and colors are vibrant and abundant.

The unique visual style, the striking monster designs, and the atypical abilities of the creatures, stand out against a sea of other anime where beings with supernatural powers are the focal points.

The fight scenes. They are well choreographed, have good sound effects, and the blows the beasts throw at each other have nice and weighty physics behind them.

Intriguing backstory and mysteries. The character arcs are fleshed out from beginning to end.

Bad:

Depressing, macabre, and anxiety enducing if you are sensitive to characters in constant jeopardy of exiting the show in very violent methods.

Some scenes are gruesome and overly violent for pure shock value. Removing or lessening some of the butchery from these scenes would still keep the narrative perfectly intact. Gleipnir is not quite at the level of torture-porn flicks like Saw or Hostel, but there are a few instances where it could give those movies a run for their money.

There are some characters introduced that are purely meat bags to be torn apart, and add nothing to the plot.

Meh:

It is essentially a battle royale anime, except the participants can leave but choose to stay in order to win a prize - at least for most of them. I'm fairly tired of this style of storytelling. The set-up of a life and death competition to constantly have heightening achieved by increasing the amount of upsetting deaths, isn't my cup of tea. What does make it interesting is the character choices and relationships that form in this kind of environment. However, how many times can you still find interesting the setup of a protagonist going from a semi-pacifist at the start, to a cold blooded murderer at the end?

It can get pretty melodramatic. In some cases it works, at other times it feels like you're watching a dark and grim version of The OC.

Semi-satisfying ending, however, it seems like the production team ran out of time to tell the story. In the final two episodes, the point of view jumps around a bunch, and nearly half of these episodes are told in flashback with characters we have barely - if at all - been introduced to prior. Be warned, If you get hooked on this anime, prepare to hunt down the manga afterward to see how the story progresses.

The logic of the characters are suspect in a few occasions. The way the characters explain a situation and the risks involved, can come off as a little too black and white. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when there are five minute conversations about why a character is making an obvious decision, it feels like the dialogue is trying to be headier than what it is actually being conveyed.
