"Anime Beginnings"

The anime experience started when I had a younger mind.

Watching Toonami as I got home from school

I seem to have put that memory behind

As I develop into an otaku fool

-

Once an anime has been seen

The next days to come go super slow

Like a throne occupied by an evil queen

In a few days, I'll be over it though

-

Often I feel as if I've see it all

Once in awhile I'll be taken by surprise

I thought the anime world was kind of small

But it appears I have yet to adventure the entire size

"A Tale of Manga"

It started after a crazy tale

The pages went by like a giant sale

Going as fast as a dream that just ended

Everything in these chaps are simply splended

-

It's been a few years and I've read many

Find better ones like a shiny new penny

The manga world has much to give

I hope to read and don't outlive

-

A good action will keep me busy

Fights so big they will make you dizzy

That's not to say I don't like other types

Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, I have no gripes

-

To this very day I have read few that I hated

Most I thank for having been created

Never regret when they end

Onto the next one, friend

Please post manga/anime update needs in the forum threads as then mods take care of them - I don't have time to follow up on posts that get made in my profile (the manga one is in the manga section, anime one is in feature requests/bugs)

First of all thanks for replying to my blog :]

Now to clarify few things:

1.There were 2 factors in the judging - quality and quantity. First was comparison of "best of..." to see which one are the best. Second one was rough estimation of "how many of those awesome mangas can I find in the genres". In my opinion Seinen, and Josei beats Shounen and Shoujo in both cathegories. But, even if I look at it from your perspective ( since for you best of Shounen beats best of Seinen/Josei ) the quantity factor remains unchanged. There are good Shounen romances, no doubt about that. But they are minority.

2. I've also read Suzuka, and 30 or 40 chapters of KnIM, and I agree they are good titles. But the faults I've pointed out, aren't the faults that good mangas posses. Suzuka is a good example of how can you ride the "typically shounen" way, but avoid stumbling upon those problems. For example harem - there exist harem, and there exist a love polygon. Suzuka uses love polygon, and that's why it's so enjoyable to read. Love Hina uses harem, and that's why it's so annoying. I don't mind main character being surrounded by a lot of girls. What I do mind, is when those girls aren't disturbed by their rivals, and just do a group hug on main character without thinking for a second, that if they love him so much, than they would want to be the only one in his heart. If I see a romance, where one side doesn't mind sharing his/her partner with dozen of other competitors, than my opinion of this is already lowered. And unfortunately that is the more popular way in shounen romances.

And it's the same deal with the other 2 flaws - the fact, that few good mangas without them exist, doesn't save the genre. And lack of realistic emotions in most of the shounen is a fact. Take Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu for example -  there is no way a girl like Haruka could possibly exist. Combination of "perfect lady" with "clumsy girl" may sound  fun on paper, but if you stop and think about it, the stupidity of this pop out - the clumsiness normally would also affect the "perfect lady" image. Just like most Shoujo mangas creates perfect boys, that always understand the girl, most of the Shounen creates flat  girls (as flat character, not flat chest :P) , who are centered around one quirk, and beside that doesn't act like a real girl at all.

So to sum it up - I didn't say all the shounen romances are flawed. What I did say is that "because most of the shounen romances are flawed, the genre as a whole is inferior to Seinen and Josei".

I also think that best of Seinen/Josei beats best of Shounen/Shoujo, but let's just leave that as a matter of personal tastes. And I might also add, that despite this ranking I actually like reading/watching all 4 genres. Just the feelings about quality  afterwards differ.
