After I watched Blackbeard Speech in Mock Town, there's no way I could hate this guy.

Luffy and Blackbeard are quite different, but have the same exact dream.

I honestly like Teach, not for how much of a complete asshole he acts like but for how similar he is to Luffy. He's Luffy if he was a villain, and his power is amazing. I never would think of him to be a bad guy when he was first introduced (who did?)

He's an interesting character, I like aleatorio's comparison. He has grand plans and power, but he acts so pathetic when he's in danger.

Sure, Blackbeard is hateable, considering the selfish methods he uses to achieve his dreams.

But, at the same time, he's a genius storytelling move from the author. Remember when he first appeared? He was the only one believeing in Sky Island and the only one believing in dreams. Just like Luffy, in a way. And they had the opposite taste in food, claiming simultaneous the pie to be delicious/horrible.

I'd say that Blackbeard is a "dark" version of Luffy. They share the same dreams (and very similar behaviour) but yet act upon completely different ideologies and beliefs.
