Claymore

In times of olde, humans live in constant fear of demons known as yoma. These vicious creatures can take the appearance and memories of humans they have devoured, thus blending into society as they freely feast on human flesh. The key to stopping the yoma lies with the tolerated yet feared Claymores - women who are half-demon, half-human, and fully fated to become the demons that they hunt. Meanwhile, in a village, the young Raki has been banished; his only crime was losing his family to the yoma. Raki is drawn to a Claymore named Clare, and together their journey begins. While Clare fights the yoma plaguing the land, can Raki help her in her struggle to retain her humanity?

Now, Claymore's not exactly about wolves... or werewolves. But I know I cried at the end of Wolf's Rain, and I was almost brought to tears at the end of Claymore. Don't worry, their similarities don't stop there. Claymore and Wolf's Rain have lots of action, and lots of soul-filled drama. In both series, the main character is a silent, determined type. Also, they both work together with their companions to make a difference.

One thing to be noted is that Rain's soft rock intro (which I love) is contrasted with Claymore's metallic intro (which I also love). If you don't at least like harsh rock, you may get buzzkilled during the combat scenes :P

Surely, if you liked Wolf's Rain, you'll probably like Claymore.

Each of these series are rather violent with deep plots, have many important supporting characters, and a very strongly motivated main character. Also, they are both rather melancholic and have a rather epic and long final story arc.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

Both of these anime have a strong-willed lead character who isn't afraid to fight for what they want. The lead is also surrounded by colorful and powerful supporting characters, and a strong adversary. Both have a melancholic atmosphere and show what it is to be human, even if the main cast is far from human. With great action and a intricate storyline, these anime are definitely worth your time.

Both are about peace for their worlds. They both have cute animals, and interesting ways of thinking how their worlds' would end as they know it! (There are a few bloody scenes, if you're not into that, don't bother watching it!)

Mysteries hidden behind the dark frames of the reality. That is what connects these two beautifully done animes, Shingentsutan Tsukihime and Wolf's Rain. The watcher is left to ponder, to wait for the answers to curl up. There is also certain calmness in atmospheres of both of these series, so even though everything isn't clairly visible at the beginning you won't still feel too messed up after every episode.

CodeWordChobits CodeWordChobits says...

The supernatural abounds in these two mystery series. The settings or backgrounds are often bright in either of these series but the atmosphere that is created by the characters is very dark even brooding at times. If you like dark shows that provoke thought then either of these will do.

Both of these anime center around the hero's quest - in FMA it's the quest for the philosopher's stone and in WR, the quest for paradise. Wolf's Rain is darker than FMA, but both have the same bittersweet undertones throughout.

Isabellia Isabellia says...

Both Wolf's Rain and Full Metal Alchemist are about a determined party looking for something important that may not even exsist. In both journeys, the main characters go through trials that test their character and push them to the limits. I think they are both good series and if you like one, you are sure to enjoy the other.

If you are looking for another mysterious story, this could be your next pick! Wolf's Rain and Bakumatsu share a few important features, after all. Both have a gloomy atmosphere that is supported by both romance and mystery. The story goes quite deep, but doesn't move so fast that you'll lose track of it. Wolf's Rain gets a little sadder, but in the end they are still very alike.

subparalien subparalien says...

Both of these have slow steady character development with fantasy elements. Bakamatsu has a historical setting, Wolf's Rain an apocalptic one.

Both series lean towards the more serious, realistic side of anime. Of course, by realistic I mean character reactions and growth within the fantasy/sci-fi genre. Also, both have a sense of adventure-with-purpose that draws you in and makes you care about what happens to them.

eclipsedwonder eclipsedwonder says...

I'll second this motion. The Blood+ anime isn't my favorite (the manga is about 1million times better) but both have serious characters who experience serious and tragic loses. The ending is kind of bitter/sweet and there are a ton of loose ends.

Berserk

Berserk

However, as Griffith leads his soldiers from victory to victory, the bloody wars and underhanded politics reveal a side to him that nobody quite expected. Both Animes have a great, profound and grave storyline along with serious and very well characterised heros which the viewer will sympathize with very much.

Berserk offers more gore and great battles along with thousands of bloody casualties (but note that also Wolf's Rain is for sure no slight fare) while Wolf's Rain has a more mystic and magic ambiance.

But in any case, if you like one of these Animes you really should check out the other (also if Wolf's Rain <-> Berserk is absolutely no common tip here).

Both anime are short series showing friends' long and hard jounrey, with many problems and enemies to overcome. They share similar atmosphere and contain supernatural porwers involved.

For the strong-willed Thor adjustment comes naturally; but for his naive and weaker brother Rai, things do not go as well. Just like Wolf's Rain, Jyu Oh Sei has an 'end of the world, only the strongest will last' theme. Both implore military themes that are the main cause of the world ending. In both animes their are characters that fight, kill, and chase after a seemingly impossible dream to live in a world that does not exist.

Kinnara Kinnara says...

Firstly, the almost identical feel WR and JOS give out simply cannot be ignored. To pinpoint some similarities, the leads of both are people living on a totally different level from those apparently similar characters surrounding them. The setting is slightly apocalyptic with a high danger level and mortality rate, absolute goals and a touch of feelings.

Both are made by the same anime studio and show a similarly destroyed world, with Wolf's Rain taking place in the last days of the world, and No. 6 taking place in a post-apocalyptic world.  If you like the style of likeable characters going on a quest, taking down corrupt leaders and finding their own peace, you'll definitely like both of these series.
