Fate/stay night

Fate/stay night main image

The Holy Grail War is a battle between seven magicians who each summon a mythical hero to fight for their cause. Shirou, a twice orphaned high school boy, had so little magical talent that his foster father did not bother teaching him about the war and its meaning. Thanks to that lack of foresight, Shirou finds himself in a bit of a pinch when he accidentally summons a hero of the strongest class, and is sucked into the fray. The Grail grants the winner any wish they have. But driven by an unyielding sense of justice and self-sacrifice, for what will Shirou fight?

Bohu Shingetsutan Tsukihime and Fate/stay night are created by the same studio Type Moon, and in fact they are quite similar - both include not-so-strong leading male character, and his companion - leading female character - is from a different world. Also the ending is similar to each other (no spoilers here :-). There are also differences - both series have totally different mood - FSN being more action packed than Tsukihime.
freakzilla

Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night are created by the same company. While they might have a different story, the atmosphere, buildup and characters are very reminiscent of each other. Adding some action and a solid story, these 2 anime differentiate themselves from other game-to-anime conversions. (Don't worry, the hentai from teh games has disappeared in teh anime if that's what might scare you off.)

Strifelife

Since I really like anime done by Studio TYPE-MOON, I had to make this recommendation.

Both Fate/stay Night and Tsukihime are originally visual novels, and they have some similar character elements. The men have talents that they can't fully use, and the women are really strong. Both anime have nice stories that follow the relationship between the characters as they face hardships, and have drama, action, supernatural and fantasy elements, and romance.

DreamerBlade

Both series are about a guy getting thrown into a fight he didn't think he was ready for and finding out it was something he was born to do.

fizrox

In both anime main character has to deal with unexpeted, supernatural facts thathe is forced to face. What's more, there is also tragic love story going between those who the most shouldn't fall for each other...

kadabra64

both of these series are centered on the battle in an all out war hidden from the naked eye, the characters struggle with modern ideas, relationships and battles to create a heartpounding adventure that will render the viewer speechless in the end. Both of these will are wonderful and if one is well recieved the other will be as well

suubersnake

Is it possible to lead a psuedo normal life when you have special powers? Two normal teenagers each with their own special gifts find out that it is possible until they meet a girl which flips their life around for a while.

dazn01

Both series are about a strong female in need and the average not so average guy. lots of action in both and there is a sturdy romance plot.

they are also very similar in overall plot...just diferent details and such... maybe too similar

Prettykitty20034

These series both star an "average" guy with a hidden power and an ultra powerful non-human female. They are similar in that both stories unfold in a slow mysterious way and deal with supernatural elements. If you liked one of these, do give the other a try.

MrKorrrn

The reason I'd like to recomend these two is becouse of the feeling you get from the animes. In my opinion I don't think they share that much but the feeling you'll get from watching them. They both share that dark story about the two persones, who meets and fall in love whit each others. But who can't be together due the fact of there past and the now.

What I like about these is the fact that you can almost feel what theay feel. At some points it almost got me to turn of the serie to take a brake from it. If you got the same feeling from seeing one of them I bet you'll get the same feeling from the other. If you just like the darker side of love I still recomend this one for you. Hope you'll like it

Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied main image

For Kouta and Yuka, finding the bloody naked young girl on the beach would change their lives forever, for better or for worse. Unable to speak or function as a normal human being, she is named Nyuu by the duo, and taken into their home in an effort to save her. But what neither teenager knows is that this innocent young girl is actually a killing machine -- an experiment gone terribly wrong -- and it is only a matter of time before the murderer in her awakens again...

Though Tsukihime is undoubtedly a great deal more tame than Elfen Lied in the violence and action department, they both have a very unique and similar feel to them that makes me think this is a good recommendation pair. If you are looking for something elegant, yet dark and mysterious, check this out.
CheesyP18
These two series are frightenly alike. The atmosphere and tone that these two animes set are incredible. I watched both of these in my room with the lights off in the middle of the night. Sometimes both just gave me chills, either just by sheer bluntness each anime portrays, or the presence of romance. Also both deal with supernatural beings, vampires and diclonius. If you're looking for more of that dark mood, just check either one of these out.
tasanime

Both Elfen Lied and Tsukihime successfully tell the supernatural tales of young individuals who, as they slowly uncover the mysteries of their pasts, discover a power that will serve to destroy the world they live in or the ones they come to love. If you were drawn into the darkness, mystery, bloody nature or supernatural ambience of one, than you'll find it difficult not to enjoy the other.

Strifelife

I think I'm making this recommendation because of the interesting and similar story lines that Elfen Lied and Tsukihime have. In Tsukihime, Shiki has lost part of his memory because of the shock of a violent event, while in Elfen Lied, Lucy (who has amnesia) tags along with Kouta, even though Kouta doesn't know much about Lucy.

If you like supernatural, mysterious, and dark anime with little bit of action and a fair amount of romance and drama, you'll definitely like both of these anime.

PS: Many don't agree, but to me, the music in both anime feels similar.

DreamerBlade

If the sheer amount of blood both animes contain isn't your thing, the emotional attachment to each of the characters that develops swiftly will.

fizrox

When you look for some good thriller story, both Elfen Lied and Tsukihime should satisfy you. You can find some cliffhangers as well as abnormal motives in these stories.

kadabra64

Both series create relationships and struggles between they unsuspecting main character and the iconic "on the run" girl, both use mystery, suspence, and admittedly some violence to keep a riveting performance. If either is enjoyed then the other will surely be just as enjoyable or even better.

TJ2012

This Two Anime's May Seem Vary diffrent at first but when you watch both Elfin Lied And Lunar Legand Tsukihime you can see that The storys are both Greatly Writin Out and Both Have the right amount of Everything. With Both the Main Guys Memoreis Being Forgoten they both seem to figure it out slowly and with the write amount of Darkness these animes Seem To Be Realy closly Related

Well what more can I say than vampires... heheh Both series have great animations and good stories but not so much in common. Hellsing is more of a police series than Tsukihime. And abit more wicked ^^ So be sure to check it out.
CodeWordChobits
I know your thinking that they are both "Vampire shows" and yes if your really into vampires and anime then either one of these titles should work for you... however I think that the aspect of vampires trying to function in a synergistic way with humans is the primary reason for recomending one for the other.
fizrox

In both series one of the main characters is beatiful female vampire, for whom there are many enemies waiting for one-by-one combat.

If you are looking for another vampire recommendation, this is the one for you. Although I generally don't recommend, for example, any random vampire series for someone who likes vampire series, these two also happen to have something in common: uniqueness. While both definitely have a very different tone, both are equally as innovative with effects, and storyline. Tsukihime excels because it is not what viewers expect -- a mystery series, not a bloody slasher. Hitsuji no Uta is definitely more violent, but also is very unusual with its animation style and tone. Anyways, I think you'd enjoy this series.

Shingetsutan Tsukihime and Hitsuji no Uta are both beautiful quiet animes. They are both a bit dark, but not depressingly distressinly so. Neither of these awake any great feelings and the plots are quite simple, so unlike many a bit darker anime neither of these require any great brain-efforts. Which is sometimes fine, I'm not saying every anime should be like Lain.
neutrino

Both story lines are similar - a main character discovers he has a secret power/disease that separates him from the rest of normal humanity. He comes to live with his sister, and gradually learns more about his shrouded past, and what horrors lay in store for him. Both are executed in similar style -- little real action, and a LOT of staring into space...

The supernatural abounds in these two mystery series. The settings or backgrounds are often bright in either of these series but the atmosphere that is created by the characters is very dark even brooding at times. If you like dark shows that provoke thought then either of these will do.
aldat
Mysteries hidden behind the dark frames of the reality. That is what connects these two beautifully done animes, Shingentsutan Tsukihime and Wolf's Rain. The watcher is left to ponder, to wait for the answers to curl up. There is also certain calmness in atmospheres of both of these series, so even though everything isn't clairly visible at the beginning you won't still feel too messed up after every episode.
