Both Death note and Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori share extremely similar themes. "killing" someone by writing their name down somewhere. In Death Note the name is written on a note and the person dies in the way specified, in Jigoku Shoujo typing someones name into a website will let you send them to hell.

Unlike Death Note, Jigoku Shoujo doesn't follow the same one person who does the writing, rather following the character who "ferries" the souls to hell.

Botha re amazing Psychological animes taking the audience full throttle and pushing there reasoning to the very limitations, the supernatural themes make it increasing impossible to predict allowing the maximum enjoy, though in my opinion Higurashi does this a lot better.

These series' really don't have much in common in terms of plot, however they both have the same feel to them in the many plot twists and the fact that they're both very much thinking anime. Death Note in more of a mystery way where as 11Eyes is thinking in more of a mind f*ck way. Also the minor love-triangle aspect is also very similar in that there's one cute bubbly girl and one serious girl with more "decorum" so to speak, both going after the main guy. But the feel to both of them would make them appeal to the same types of fans.

If you loved Death Note, you may like Pet Shop of Horrors. Both are dark, though Death Note is longer.

I loved watching the Pet Shop. I wish that their were more.

Have you ever heard the saying, "Saving the best for last"? My favorite episode was of course the fourth and final episode... followed by the third episode. Try it again and see if you have a change of mind. I don't think that it would hurt to watch the episodes out of order.

If you don't believe my interpretation... believe this:

The best way to learn is through others mistakes.

If you're looking for a good supernatural fix, both of these series have that element.  However unlike some other paranormal series, these two are both fast paced, set in the present time.

Maria Holic

Maria Holic

Kanako Miyamae hates boys so much that she breaks out into hives after any physical contact with them. So when she is able to transfer to the Ame no Kisaki Girl’s school, Kanako is overjoyed that she can now search for her fated yuri partner. When she arrives, Kanako meets Shidou Mariya, a beautiful young girl who is exactly her type... except that Mariya is really a sarcastic and sadistic young boy who is masquerading as a girl! With no intention of being expelled from school, Mariya threatens Kanako into keeping his secret, and decides to guard her twenty-four hours a day to ensure that she does. Now Kanako must share a room with Mariya who is gleefully making her life a misery while using his ‘feminine’ charms to stop her protesting. Throw into the mix Ryuuken, the most popular girl in school who has vowed to protect her; and Kiri - who claims they are dating to prevent her from being bullied - and it seems as if Kanako’s dream of all-girl school life will be nothing like she imagined!

I felt that Death Note and Maria Holic, though not being similar in plot in the slightest, both established a very distinct aura to the world and setting that they each were placed in, it not being quite similar to that of any other show. If you enjoyed one of these shows, and enjoyed the feel and vibe of the very detailed setting, the other is recommended.

if you liked deathnote for it's mystery/psychological aspects then continue through the list but if, like me, you liked it because it was different and willing to have a character that is the "bad guy" be the main character then i highly suggest air master. although it isn't quite as dark as Death Note Maki from Air Master is definitely cruel and bloodthirsty at times and that's what makes it different from other combat anime.

Tiger & Bunny

Tiger & Bunny

In Sternbuild City, corporate logos not only cover billboards, but also the costumes of the super-powered heroes that act as its protectors. Veteran and newcomer warriors of justice alike compete in a reality TV show that offers points for apprehending criminals while giving champions' sponsors a chance to promote their brand. When the low-ranking Wild Tiger loses his backing after a string of outrageous, botched rescues, he finds himself paired with an up-and-coming spotlight-seeker called Barnaby. But with their wildly different personalities, will the pair be able to save their beloved Sternbuild City and win the game show, or will their constant tension be the undoing of the world's first hero team?

MageOnx MageOnx says...

Although maybe at first glance they don't seem familliar at all, there is one key simmilarity that connects Tiger & Bunny and Death Note together: that is the concept of the never-ending fight between law and crime, and the many different perspectives one can view them from that both shows offer us. Although the main perspective is offered by main characters, when all is taken into consideration, in the end it is left to the vewer to actually choose what is really this 'justice' everyone is trying so hard to defend and carry out. Oh, and a couple more things: both series have a very balanced plot that is at times too intense to bear, and although the character pallette and the mood seem completely different from one another, the basic feeling after cooling off the series is practically the same (at least to me). :D Nevertheless, I recommend to at least check out the other if you've watched one.

Both of these shows involve a ridiculous amount of plotting and tactical gambits. They both take place in a modern day setting, but both have a supernatural element involved. Fate/Zero has a lot more major characters and different motivations whereas Death Note has a 1v1 feel, but there is a life-and-death competition in both and plenty of suspense as you wonder what the characters have up their sleeve next.
