Yep, I leave for Japan in about two weeks and then I'm there for a little less than a month. My school has a short semester during May that we have to take at least twice, and it has a bunch of travel courses during it, and my friend and I decided to sign up for Japan! I'm finishing up finals this coming week and then I get a week of break before traveling. I'm really excited, it's a homestay trip so after the first week there I'll be staying with a Japanese family that signed up with my school. I think it'll be a great experience, just a bit nervous about the plane ride over...
What's Arren like? I've always wanted to visit Scotland (well the British Isles in general.) I was thinking of trying to go to graduate school in England because I was planning to study medieval history.
What exactly is Welcome to Night Vale? I know it's a podcast but that's pretty much all I know about it. I've been so stressed out over work lately that I've lacked motivation to start anything new or continue anything I've started watching. I've just been reading a lot of books and rewatching some movies I like, ha.
I want to like Makoto Shinkai's work more, but I've only seen 5 Centimeters Per Second and The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and I only really liked the former. I agree that his art and animation is always amazing to look at but his movies have a tendency to get their pacing thrown around and just feel like they drag on. I really disliked the latter movie because it was a less slice-of-life/romance story and more sci-fi, and almost nothing was explained, the characters felt incredibly underdeveloped, and the pacing was slow. While the animation was gorgeous, there just wasn't anything else keeping me there, I almost gave up halfway through before deciding to stick it out. I'm definitely interested in trying his other works (I did like Voices of a Distant Star too, not as much as 5cm but it was a shorter, rougher work so that was to be expected anyways.)
I'm really beginning to feel like I have no spare time as the end of my semester approaches. I visited my old high school with my friends yesterday (nostalgia!) and I had a great time hanging out with them since I don't get to see them very often because of where their schools are located. But ya, I'm feeling really busy lately, I can't wait until the semester ends (but then I have to get nervous about my trip to Japan...)
Love to see that you've added your own bio (which, by the way, is sooo cool), so I'm just going to say that Anime-Planet is a really good site. There are a lot of people here who are fun to be friends with. You will also meet at least one person who you'll become great friends with. I do hope that you'll take the time to know it all.
If you have any questions regarding this website, please ask. ^^ I hope you enjoy the time you spend here~
PS: I also want life to be a musical XD I love the list of anime you've watched, and I too love to watch obscure, underrated anime. I find that people yapping about mainstream anime tends to keep me away from it XD
Hey, nice to see the new account! I just read your review of Adolescence of Utena, I'll leave my comments here. I do think the movie works a lot better if you've already seen the series (I watched it almost immediately afterwards, but if I had seen it before it would've felt really disjointed), but I enjoyed the movie a lot. Also, I believe the English dub was better for the movie (have never heard it, though, I stuck with the Japanese audio the whole way) because Ikuhara had a hand in the direction/writing of it; in general I think his vision was a lot more consistent with the movie than the series, even if I still prefer the series.
