What you think you are seeing and what is really there are not the same. Once you see through the deception you won’t be the same.

This short anime is a trip for the mind into absurd abstract insanity that may be organized chaos.

War changes people before, during, and after. Those who know someone who returned from the tragedy of war know the person is a bit off. They have trouble not responding to a car backfiring, an alarm system, small round objects, movies with guns or other weapons etc. in an over exaggerated way. Being targeted and acknowledging that they could die at any second for any amount of time is not something that just goes away when the war is over.

While this anime doesn’t directly address PTSD it does touch on looking for the meaning behind the images or the actions that turn out to be something else. When in war sometimes, if not all the time, deceiving enemies is a necessity. Likewise deception on the homefront can also be a logical choice designed to prevent those waiting by the radio or TV for news about what’s going on and how their loved ones and country are doing.

But when at first you practice to deceive … well stopping can become impossible. Adopting back to civilian life may be crueler than death.

Singing a song after deceiving someone seems to be a theme but stops after a while. There may be a deeper meaning to this but this reviewer assumes the creators simply wanted to focus on the images rather than dialogue or lyrics.

Advice, if you choose to watch this don’t try and focus on anything, just let the images flow.
