Warning: there might be something spoilery for you in this review.

Overall, I genuinely enjoyed this anime. I'm not a really huge fan of thrillers and psychological storys, but this  is a great investment for those who need something filling. At the moment, there are 3 episodes of season two, but I am waiting till the second season is complete, so for now, this is reviewing the first season only! ( O vO)

FIrst I want to address the environment the story takes place in. The overall mood of it is just downright intimidating. The fear of death, a constant threat looming over your shoulder, trapped in an inescapable cage, suspicion in everyone who joins your cause. Only fitting for the anime's genre. The fact that everything is so bright and cheerful, and the ignorance of the other children, makes everything seem much more darker. And the parts that actually are dark are magnified with the contrast. Love it, love it, love it.

Animation is on point. Nothing out of place and I believe it actually changes a bit with every crutial event. Very smooth. Reason why I gave it a 9.5 and not a ten is because I would have like to see more interaction with the environment outside of dramatic scenes. I don't want to stare at still trees every single day. There has gotta be some wind somewhere. Call me (extremely) petty.

Characters, *chef's kiss*. Got Emma, your naive girl who loves everyone and everything about her life and suddenly her whole world view is flipped upside down, inverted, and shoved into a hole in the dirt. How they handled her reaction and personality after the dicovery is almost exactly how I would have expected someone like her to behave. Her developement, phenomenal. You could tell that after the loss of her friend was a turning point in her character, but not in a negative way. She only grew stronger, which completely lines up with her personality. Norman is the brain of the operation and he is a sweet (I think so anyways) kid. Does pull some bullshittery out of his ass, but gotta love him for it. The fact he is supposedly compliant with the turn of evets works with his character too. Omg Ray, oh my baby, just watch this and you'll know what I mean.

The MOM roles are great too! They actually come across a threats. Those who are much more competent than the children, both mentally and physically.

Gonna rewatch once season two is complete!! <3
