Tokyo Ghoul √A

Mar 26, 2020

Personally I didn't think this was as bad as many people made it out to be. Sure the show completely threw away the idea of trying to incorporate theme exploration and worldbuilding in favor of just mindless violence, but there were a couple of moments that I felt were well handled. The sound design and atmosphere in this anime for one are fantastic. The show really did a great job at making you feel uneasy at certain points. Certain locations within the show really felt like they had this ominous presence throughout and the calm moments really did feel like downtime after tons of bloodshed. OST is... See full review

One-Punch Man

Mar 26, 2020

Dumb action series are dime a dozen in the anime world. However most of them try their darn hardest to tell a compelling story that just comes off as pathetic and groundbreaking characters that just appear to be one dimensional stereotypes. Needless to say, One Punch Man is a rare addition to the genre. Its a series so dumb that it pretty much admits its stupid. And it indulges in it.

I've got to admit I've never been this hyped before for an action anime since JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The series itself is based on one bald chap's ability to blow monsters into smithereens with just one punch... See full review

Noragami Aragoto

Mar 26, 2020

Works animated by Studio Bones are rather unpredictable. Sometimes they could end up as passable or even fantastic works of fiction (i.e Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Darker than Black) or they could end up as complete failures (i.e Zetsuen no Tempest). Noragami on the other hand fits in between those; a mediator amidst the good and the bad. I still remember the first season quite well but as an urban fantasy shonen, it did not do anything out of the ordinary and felt a bit too similar to other shows of the same demographic. There were a lot of interesting concepts and some great character... See full review

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These

Mar 26, 2020

So, now that the Spring season is all done and over with (and the Summer season is in full force), I reckon it’ll be a nice idea to review a few of its notable titles.

First things first: I don’t really consider myself a seasonal watcher. Sure, I’d watch one or two shows per season, but I’m fairly adverse to binge watching multiple anime at a time. Funny enough, I used to be an avid seasonal watcher about 3 years ago. Probably was a mistake, because I got completely burnt out with disappointments after disappointments to the point where I even took a short break from... See full review

Golden Kamuy

Mar 26, 2020

The year is 1905, the time of the Russo-Japanese war. The Japanese and the Russian forces are waging a massive war that would decimate armies on both sides. The former has a platoon stationed within a trench in the Hokkaido region of their own country. One of the soldiers spots a battalion of opposing forces on the other side, with some machine gunners in their squad for defensive measures. One of the men, a high-ranking officer, gives his men a signal. The platoon charge ahead, screaming and hurling battle cries as they set their sights on the enemy. But its futile. One by one, they drop dead in an... See full review

91 Days

Mar 26, 2020

Ah it’s been a while since we've got an anime that veered away from the usual cliches and tropes that could be found in nearly every single show nowadays. I'm talking about the moeblob characters, the endless amount of exposition, girls getting their clothes ripped to shreds for the purpose of fanservice, spiky haired characters screaming their lungs out at their opponents and so on. Therefore it’s refreshing to see a show that stays far away from many of these cliches and tries to gather inspiration from another medium instead: western gangster films.

A 1900s setting, mafia members... See full review
