The year is 1973 when the BETA, a race of aliens discovered on the moon, first arrive on Earth and begin their systematic extermination of the human race. Mankind's only hope lies with Tactical Surface Fighters, or TSFs, piloted by both military elite and would-be trainees such as Yui Takamura, a young girl descended from a long line of Imperial Guards. Alongside other amateurs, she finds herself on the front lines of a final defense against the bloodthirsty monsters, unaware of the brutal consequence that awaits them. Three years later, Yuuya Bridges, a half-Japanese, half-American pilot, is assigned to an elite United Nations squadron tasked with developing new TSFs to beat back the alien forces. As humanity struggles to survive, Yuuya must come to terms with his biases in dealing with both his teammates' and other culture’s tactical fighters, including the veteran pilot Yui Takamura herself.

The story follows the Titans Test Team, Black Otter Team, on their mission to test new mobile suits for the Titans. It begins with Eliard Hunter, an Earth Federation mobile suit pilot being assigned to the Titans and transferring to the Aswan, an Alexandria class carrier. There he meets Carl Matsubara, another new Titans recruit, Audrey April a skilled pilot and chief of test operations and data gathering, and Wes Murphy, a veteran of the One Year War and the Delaz Conflict. The Black Otter team doesn’t just carry out test runs, it also participates in real combat missions against Zeon Remnants and later, against AEUG.

Betrayed by his own men, Captain Grahad Mills, a commander of the SAA Special Force "Jackal," is held responsible for a conspiracy about which he knew nothing. Without defense counsel at his court, he is sentenced to death. On the morning of his execution, he escapes the military detention center; in the process blasting a troop of national military guards and killing its commander - Captain Waldman, his former subordinate and betrayer. All this is for revenge and to find out the reason for the treachery. The former hero - feared and known as "Genocide" - starts to fight a battle he created by himself.

During the One Year War, in an attempt to replace losses in the Federation for mobile suit pilots, a penal battlion was formed called the Slave Wraiths. Led by Travis Kirkland, he and his team take on suicide missions in highly advanced mobile suits to make deadly surgical strikes into the enemy side. On the other side, the Marchosias, a regiment for Zeon elite pilot washouts was formed as well. When Doug Schneid, a former pilot of Zeon defects to the Federation with the Pale Rider in tow, both sides are forced to fight together to stop a conspiracy that lurks within the MS development research.

The year is Universal Century 0087. Seven years have passed since the end of the One Year War. In its zeal to stamp out any remaining opposition, the Earth Federation has organized the Titans, an elite fighting force. However, the Titans soon get out of hand, committing atrocities on par with the worst the Principality of Zeon had to offer during the war. In response, dissatisfied citizens, former Zeon soldiers, and even members of the Earth Federal Forces form a resistance group known as the Anti-Earth Union Group, or AEUG. As the next war is brewing, a small AEUG group arrives at Side 7 to investigate the new Gundam Mk. II...

An Earth Federation Army special forces unit called Barghest (or BGST for short) in UC 0084 is created with Lieutenant Colonel Ito Tsurugi serving as its commanding officer, who is the only officer in the EF military known to carry a katana with him wherever he's on duty.

The Cosmic Era. Coordinators, born through genetic modification and Naturals, who are born naturally. Both experienced two great wars. People devoted themselves to fighting for things they believed in and things they should protect. Fighting gives birth to hatred and hatred in turn gives birth to sorrow. The battlefield swallows the fate of the soldiers and turned into the gravestone to an invisible future. Although a transient piece arrived in the end, the scars of war run deep. Yet in such a world, there were those who walked a path they strongly believed. Engineers giving their lives and roles to that which was discarded and destroyed: Junkers. Those who fight for those without power: Mercenaries. Those who convey the truth to the people: Journalists. Even if they deviate from the noble path, they will follow a path they believe in according to their own beliefs -Astray.

Universal Century 0079.03.18 – The Principality of Zeon carries out their third drop operation. The 4th Terrestrial Mobile division make their way down to Earth. Chief Petty Officer Cuaran arrives on Earth as a part of the 908th Mobile Reconnaissance Company 2nd Team’s Commander. He would later be the man who attempted to destroy the Federation’s “white mobile suit”, the dreaded “Gundam.”

After years of bloody war between Earth and its orbital colonies, a delicate peace has been reached in the Solar System.
