I don't really watch animated music videos but this one... It was so beautiful and so sad. It really is heartbreaking and you may need to watch it more than once to understand it (even though I only watched it once and got it xD) the animation and colors are really beautiful and the music too

This music video is very well animated which I enjoyed all the atmospheres and environments that Rin has put herself into through her tablet. It definitely gave it a natural perspective that it was meant for. She also makes adjustments to her tablet from different places as well, it seems like her bedroom changes and she also looks at it from a tree swing which is a good touch instead of a redundant comeback to the same bedroom.

Moving into the plot; even if she can do whatever she wants with her world, she seems bored at times throughout the first half of the music video. She has lost a sense of purpose and drive within her life that a normal human would. She is lonely. I really enjoyed her flashbacks that she experiences, as well as the emotion stemming from it. She longs for a life similar to the one she had with her father in those flashbacks and it brings back tears. However, there are no details explaining why she is in this world in the first place, why her father built this environment for her. Why didnt he go with her? Why didnt they just 'die' together? Then in the end she is thankful towards her father, which is probably aimed towards her past happiness. However, she is lonely in her new world, so what is there to be thankful for?

Anyways, the video is a very good fit for the music, which as a big Porter Robinson fan, deserves nothing less than a 10. But I know nothing about the father, other than his love for Rin, which leaves a huge hole in the video.

What we have here is a music video collaboration between Porter Robinson and A-1 Pictures. As far as music videos go I would say this one was quite good.

Story and Characters

Since we have a music video here we can't really expect the most expansive story. There is some narration at the start and the end of the anime but that's it. Still, the story is interesting enough. A girl has been sent from her home planet and lives in a virtual world, one that she can change at a whim. Her home planet had suffered a catastrophe of sorts so her father made it possible for her to live, with the aforementioned living in a VR pod off planet.

There isn't a lot to know about the characters. The girl Rin is shown to be lonely and looking for some sort of contact with anyone and her father is a very caring man who wanted her to live on.

Technical Stuff

All of the sound is in the form of music, apart from the narration that had been previously mentioned. Whether or not you think the sound is good really comes down to if you like Porter's music. Personally I am not the biggest fan of that style of music.

Animation wise it's very good. The character designs are not particularly original but the environments are certainly impressive.

Conclusion

A nice video with music that isn't the worst I have heard by a long way, just not my thing. The video itself was interesting enough for me to give it a pretty good final score.

It is really hard to get a handle on A-1 Pictures 2016 six-minute pop video. The video is cut to resemble the opening sequence of a really cool sci-fi anime minus the titles. To be honest we were already familiar with the song (by DJ & Record producers Porter Robinson & Madeon) before we knew of the video. So, it all gets off to a fantastic start with a nice familiar tune and great visuals. You may wish to watch it through a few times to get a hang of what it is conveying. It certainly isn’t your usual slice of story-telling. You may well learn more about the plot of this tale from the standard blurb or its Wikipedia entry. Robinson himself wrote the short science fiction story upon which the video is based. It is colourful, fast moving, bright, sombre and melancholy. A great little slice of anime from the people that brought you “Anohana”. Check it out.

AP recommended it so I checked it out: though I enjoyed the concept and the summary of Shelter, it being 6 minutes in length did not give it enough time to add depth, layers or much concepts to this short. The visuals were crisp but not much storyline. I felt like I was watching a demo play of an upcoming RPG game...
