I am one picky individual when it comes to anime but this one had captured my attention since the first episode.

Violence, mystery and a really good pace along with the quality animation.

I like the fact that the series did not focus on the main character and everyone played their part well.

I really am looking forward to season two as it had a major cliffhanger at the end. There's just so much that I want to find out about everyone's storyline since there were vague flashbacks throughout the serie.

Probably the only downside I felt at the beginning was the fact that it was in chinese, as I've seen japanese animes so far, but after I gave the first episode a try I wasn't even paying attention to the language anymore.

A solid 10/10.

I've been looking for an anime about survival on an island somewhat like Btoom! and I'm so glad I came across this! Though the ending was kinda a disappointment, I still enjoyed the ride and the story it brings. I even went to read up on the manhua, though it's still ongoing but I can wait.

The story was better than I expected it to be for a survival-type anime. I had expected an one-person-dies-per-episode kind of story but instead, all the characters in the MC's group was all interesting and their backstory was short and sweet to understand. There are defintely some points that were redundant and pointless, not to mentioned easily brushed off later on, but it all happen at the start and later on it gets better.

I'm not picky about the animation and sound but it was decent.

Characters were all interesting like I said eariler and not much sterotype characters like those in an survival anime. There are  some of course, but we all know they're going to die sooner or later and that makes their deaths all the more satisfying to watch. The MC was badass from the start but after his 'accident', he became a little annoying. But afterwards, he does get better and more intriguing, taking on the role of a leader to the group which I like.

In conclusion, this anime is good, if you don't mind the erupt ending and the awkward start.

"Mi Yu Xingzhe" (Uncharted Walker) - A Pleasant Surprise in the World of Fantasy Anime

Story (8/10): As a fan of fantasy anime, "Mi Yu Xingzhe" turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The story revolves around a young man named Mi Li who possesses the unique ability to communicate with ancient beasts. He embarks on a journey to uncover the truth about his powers while facing various challenges and encounters with mythical creatures. While the premise may not be entirely groundbreaking, the world-building and the mysteries surrounding Mi Li's abilities keep the narrative engaging. There's a sense of adventure and discovery that's genuinely captivating.

Animation (7/10): The animation quality in "Mi Yu Xingzhe" is commendable. The fantasy world is beautifully designed, with lush landscapes and intricate creature designs. The action scenes are well-executed, and the character animations are fluid. While it may not reach the visual heights of some blockbuster anime, it certainly does justice to the fantasy genre.

Sound (7/10): The sound design and music in "Mi Yu Xingzhe" enhance the viewing experience. The background score effectively captures the mystical and adventurous tones of the series. Voice acting performances are solid, with characters' voices matching their personalities and backgrounds.

Characters (7/10): The characters in "Mi Yu Xingzhe" are diverse and intriguing. Mi Li, as the protagonist, undergoes significant growth throughout the series. His interactions with various supporting characters, both human and supernatural, add depth to the story. The relationships and bonds that form over the course of the journey are a highlight, as they reflect themes of trust and understanding.

Overall (7/10): "Mi Yu Xingzhe" is a noteworthy addition to the world of fantasy anime. While it might not reinvent the genre, it excels in delivering an engaging story with a likable protagonist and a richly crafted fantasy world. The balance between action, mystery, and character development is well-maintained. With its solid animation and fitting soundtrack, it offers an enjoyable viewing experience. My overall score of 7/10 reflects my satisfaction with the series, and I'd recommend it to fellow fantasy enthusiasts looking for a captivating adventure.

tl;dr:  Unfinished, terrible characters, contrived situations.  Avoid.  I'm not sure why others are gushing over this in their reviews.  I've seen a lot of anime in my time and I'm willing to overlook flaws if I overall enjoy a show, but this is just plain bad.

Story

For starters it's completely unfinished.  It stopped basically in the middle of a season, I guess due to loss of funding?  The setup for the show is fine, I came in expecting an island survival anime.  The execution is absolutely terrible though and features awkward puzzles and immersion breaking non-believable character interactions.  The "puzzles" / situations they have to think their way out of are not interesting at all and just serve as a stilted plot device to reveal that mc can think on his feet.

Characters

There are exactly two interesting characters in this show, the mc who has amnesia and the orange hair guy with the knife.  Snippets of their backstory is revealed and this was enough for me to trudge through to completion, but as with everything else their stories are very incomplete.

The others serve as fanservice, fodder, or are otherwise completely unnoteworthy.

Conclusion

If they did a second season of this, killed off all the irrelavant characters, and focused hard on backstory / interaction between the few good characters they MIGHT be able to turn it into something that isn't a complete waste of your time.  For now there is no reason to watch this.  If you are into Chinese anime, then I instead recommend:

  • Mo Dao Zu Shi
  • Guan Zhi Gao Shou
