Macross Dynamite 7 - Reviews

The OVA sequel to the series brings more Basara singing action, now with space whales (Star Trek IV says hi) and a Moby Dick esque plot involving a large white whale and a giant citizen of the planet Zola seeking it out to kill it. Animation is top notch as expected of the format and you get plenty of fantastic songs (the title theme Dynamite Explosion is a bop), but the plot does have some issues when it comes to following the rest of Fire Bomber and has a VERY uncomfortable almost date rape scene involving Mylene that drags it down quite a bit and doesn't seem to go anywhere. It's also quite unfortunate that we don't see what Max and Milia are up to, as Battle 7 is being rebuilt. Still, if you loved Macross 7 and want more, you will enjoy this 4 episode trip.
