Although I consider Ergo Proxy a lot better than Black Lagoon, both have the same dark, "utopia" atmosphere. If you liked EP, I doubt you won't enjoy at least a bit BL.
In a futuristic and wild west-inspired Japan, there are only two rules: the Number 1 rules the world and only the Number 2 can challenge him; these ranks are worn with pride in the manner of headbands. In these harsh times, Afro is a samurai who is on a mission for revenge – an evil gunman killed his father to become the Number 1, and it’s up to Afro to take him down in a shower of blood and entrails. He has mastered the art of the sword and become Number 2, but many others want to hold his title and the title of Number 1 for themselves. With competition and sword fights at every turn, can Afro finally exact his revenge?

both animes are DARK, literally
if you're after that post-apocalyptic, hopeless, grey atmosphere, this is for you
In a bleak look at the future, Avenger takes place in a desolate wasteland filled with domed cities. Fighters from each town battle each other for power and prestige. Avenger follows the path of Leila, one of these fighters, as well as Nei, a young being called a "doll" (an android created to live with and serve humans), as they leave their home city, travelling into the wasteland.

on the surface they may look different, because they are drawn differently (Ergo Proxy is really dark and atmospheric whereas Avenger has more of a He-Man-like flair) but in essence, the plots of Ergo Proxy and Avenger are ridiculously similar
main character, haunted by his/her past & accompanied by an insanely cute robot kid travels around the dome cities of a devastated world, where humans appear to have no future
there's more, i really don't wanna go into details and spoil more
just see for yourself
Constable Fuse is part of an elite Special Forces unit known as the Capital Police whose mission is to maintain peace during a time of civil unrest. Fuse becomes entangled within a web of intrigue and politics between the Capital Police, the government intelligence bureau, and a secret society known as Jin-Roh – the Wolf Brigade.
Do you enjoy talking?
Did you enjoy long winded, overtly complex lectures at you the audience?
If you found yourself really enjoying one of these "talky" titles, you might enjoy the other.
I found Jin-Roh to have more of a reason for the 20 page dialog per scene, but they are of a similar feel.

Patlabor is a vastly better work than Ergo, but both enjoy dabbling in self-worth monologue. Also both are set in the future, with a grayed tone.
You might enjoy one if you enjoyed the other. (you also do not have to have seen any of the other patlabor shows or movies to understand it)
The Holy Grail War is a battle between seven magicians who each summon a mythical hero to fight for their cause. Shirou, a twice orphaned high school boy, had so little magical talent that his foster father did not bother teaching him about the war and its meaning. Thanks to that lack of foresight, Shirou finds himself in a bit of a pinch when he accidentally summons a hero of the strongest class, and is sucked into the fray. The Grail grants the winner any wish they have. But driven by an unyielding sense of justice and self-sacrifice, for what will Shirou fight?

If you liked ergo proxy or vise versa fate/stay night then heres why you should watch the other: ergo proxy has a main character with a dark past and the same with fate/stay night, they both include super powers and highly intense action scenes, and their stories are similar.
In the year 2977, humanity has long passed its peak; machines are able to perform any task a human can, and people have succumbed to apathy. However, there remains one who refuses to accept such an existence: Captan Harlock, a pirate who sails the sea of stars aboard his ship, the Arcadia. He is feared and loathed by most inhabitants of Earth, and yet he is their only hope against the Mazones, a strange alien race of beautiful women that threatens humanity. Thus begins a lonely battle in which Harlock and the crew of Arcadia struggle to stay true to their ideals, while slowly unravelling the sad tale of the Mazones.
Captain Harlock and Ergo Proxy revolve around technology taking over and the main characters refusing to accept that life.
In a post-apocalyptic world overrun with great beasts called Filth Monsters, a glimmering dome protrudes from the wasteland. This is Zuellni, a mobile city unique for having a consciousness in the form of ‘electronic fairies’. Moreover, Zuellni is an academy where the next generation of powerful Heavens-Blade wielders gather to pit their strength against each other in inter-platoon competitions. Nina Antalk, military student and leader of the 17th Platoon, is intent on recruiting only the best; thus, when mysterious Layfon Alseif transfers to the academy, she instantly recognizes his abilities and decides he’s the perfect candidate to join her group. However, with a secret past that won’t leave him alone, and unknown powers beyond the academy taking an interest in Zuellni, Layfon joining the team is only the start of all their troubles.

Both Ergo Proxy and Chrome-Shelled Regios share alot in common I think. they are both dystopian universes where humanity lives inside of large, bubbled cities. The difference in each lie in the setting. Ergo is dark, and mature, and Chrome is a little more light-hearted. If you liked one, I'm sure you'll like the other.
Many centuries into the future, humans live as part of the Fractale system, a computer program that moderates their activity to ensure a free and peaceful existence. But while life is indeed comfortable, the cost of growing up in virtual reality communities filled with holographic people called 'doppels' means that it can also get lonely. For Clain living estranged from his parents, adventure finally knocks when he rescues a mysterious girl called Phryne, who appears to be on the run. She spends only a short time with him before hurriedly moving on but leaves behind an unexpected gift: the curious and frustratingly whimsical doppel called Nessa! As Clain learns to adjust to his new friend and survive the scrapes she gets him into, he discovers that she and Phryne are at the heart of a great conspiracy. If he is ever to gain a sense of purpose, Clain will have to leave his comfortable existence and challenge the only thing he has ever known, the Fractale system itself.

Perhaps it is just me, but Ergo Proxy and Fractale have a very similar dystopian feel to them. Whereas fractale presents itself more of a sci-fi/fantasy. Ergo delves more into a cyberpunk conspiracy plot, and , they both contain a strong faction that doesn't wish for the current world to change. The main characters are trying to remedy this.

The Big O and Ergo Proxy have almost nothing in common, besides a similar setting. They both take place inside of large, futuristic cities, protected from the otuside world by large domes. If this is a theme you enjoy in anime, you would enjoy watching these.
