Ahiru no Sora

Sep 3, 2020

I really don't understand why people are comparing this anime with Kuroko no Basuke and Slam Dunk. Both anime shows are different in terms of storyline and characters. Sure they all are basketball related and the characters have powers. In sports anime I have a criteria: Knowledge of the sport, character flaws and skills, and the reality of the story.

But let's be honest here. Ahiru no Sora hits closer to home. Why? You rarely see failure being depicted properly in an anime. The story shows how it can happen in real life and how humanly they can cope with failures. They either work harder or simply accept it. Like they either make the character insanely perfect and having no flaws or simply give the character a redemption arc (which he comes back stronger and better).

Here are the reasons why I like this show and didn't drop it:

1. Practice doesn't make it perfect but gives IMPROVEMENT.

2. Having Sora fail or miss his shots (despite practicing a lot) is what really makes him a good character. He's flawed and at the same time confident and he just wants to make his momma proud.

3. The girls FINALLY have realistic personality and roles. I am tired of those cutesy-try hard tropes and those (cringey) tsundere personality. Like they're finally good at something. They're no longer "the crush", "just the manager", or simply "I'm here because I like the mc".

4. The guys are clearly clueless about what the girls are thinking. This is actually what made me laugh so hard and enjoy the stories.

5. Hardwork doesn't pay-off if you're not doing it correctly.

6. The story gives in depth about the characters' stories and even personal lives.

7. Gives a good explanation on basketball terminologies. Especially the terminations and fouls.

8/10 story
7/10 animation
8/10 sound
9/10 characters
8.5/10 overall
