Harley Takes the House

Feb 16, 2021

Beware of the Brothers is a story based around Hari, a 27 year old commoner, adopted by a duke, who gets sent back in time 20 years on the eve of her wedding.

And..... thats it? That is the whole of the story. There is quite frankly, no plot to speak of. She gets sent back and time and has literally no goals or plans at all. No intention to stop her adopted parents' deaths or seek out why they died, no desire to get revenge on her brothers who abused her, no want to even change her life and situation based on her knowledge as an adult and of the future. The author doesn't seem to know what they want to do with the story at all. There is no overarching plot points and the fact that she doesn't do anything in particular is just insulting to the reader. 52 chapters in and all we've got is some basic character development and lots of her being pandered by her brothers, who she swears were awful in her last life but are now suddenly pretty chill with her? If a lack of plot and common sense irk you, avoid this webtoon.

The art is passable but not particularly great. I really don't have much to say on it as it doesn't look bad at any point, but never are there any panels that make me go "wow thats beautifully drawn".

The characters are all over the place. The brothers' personalities are all over the place, and they will literally flip from extremely annoying and bullying the main character to being puppy-dogs who do whatever she says within seconds. They are pretty much just default archetypes, and have no other interesting faults, interests or characteristics. The MC herself is quite bland as well, and rarely does anything but commentate on whats going on and being nice.

Mild spoiler alert (kinda?)

As of chapter 52 (most recently released as of writing), the story is pushing hard towards an incest route between the eldest brother and MC. Its extremely creepy, and no amount of 'well they aren't blood siblings so its fine' can make up for it. Plus, the MC is still a teenager and years younger than the eldest brother, so its also quite disgusting. They grew up together and have acted like real siblings for almost a decade. Hell, a 'big' character development is the MC finally being accepted by her brothers as truly being family. To suddenly say they like each other romantically is a big middle finger to previous events. Additionally, with how smart and intelligent the author says they both are (because its never actually demonstrated), neither would realistically fall in love with each other due to how taboo and life ending it would be (especially in this setting).

Overall, its readable, but you probably won't enjoy it that much. A good time-waster, but nothing more.

4/10 story
6/10 art
5/10 characters
5/10 overall
