Too overated, but too much un-deserved hate as well.

Sword Art Online is a very controversial anime, many people hate it with a passion and many love it like its some sort of masterpiece. Really, it is just average, people who hate it are way too critical but people who love it to that degree cannot see very good storytelling. The concept of the show is great and the story starts strong with the 'trapped in a world where if you die in the game you die in real life' idea and how people cope with it. The only thing is the characters are very flat, Kirirto is your basic badass with no personality besides being an anime protaganist with PTSD (afterwards). Asuna is plain, to be honest I don't remember her much. The supporting characters aren't anything special either. After the first half the story becomes about saving Asuna and incest, but it isn't that bad. Overall if you want an plain show with a cool protaganist this show is good for you.
