With its unique cast of characters and their humorous interactions with each other, and an unforgettable main protagonist. My Teen Rom-Com has to be one of my favourite anime comedy’s thus far.

Hachiman Hikigaya, (I’ll call him Hachi-kun) our main protagonist and a shameless pessimist couldn’t think of anything more shallow and selfish in this world than to want to fit in and be accepted by society. He makes absolutely zero effort (That he wants to admit) to change and spends endless hours of his time thinking about his philosophies and ideals about a life of solitude and the many evils of social interactions. Yukino Yukinoshita is the very beautiful and smart over achiever of the class. She is a loner an many aspects as well due to the high amount of people who get jealous of her and her achievements. Regardless of this, she makes it a personal project to try to integrate Hachi – kun into society… Mostly because she’s bored and she wants to see if she can actually do it. Yui Yuigahama kind of always liked Hachi – kun, especially a year ago when he saved her dog from being run over by a car. She was always a people pleaser and a social butterfly and admired Hachi – kun’s and Yukino – chans independence and free thought compared to everyone else, and desires to be there friend. When Hiratsuka – sensei suggest the three of them start a “Social Service Club” (mostly to support Yukino’s personal project of integrating Hachi – kun into society) only good things can come from a cast of characters such as this, right!?

I am going to start off with the English translated name of this series is very weird and the character design can be off putting to some people. I would say give this anime a try anyways! Especially if you like a good laugh. I did like Hachi – kuns character design compared to everyone else. From his face to his body language. His hunch up shoulders, poor posture, and beady eyes of harsh judgement, gave him the presence of an A+ loner status without him having to say a word. Hachi – kun’s character is defiantly a unique, impressionable character. He has many issues and is a very layered person. I myself am a pessimist, I did find Hachi relatable and his philosophies agreeable to a certain extent. Hachi – kun did take his pessimism, introversion, and solitude to an unhealthy extreme. Deep down inside I do think he has a good heart and will hopefully grow out of this teenage stage soon.

All in all, the humour of this series is very good. As the story progresses it does die down a little and does truly become a more serious romantic comedy. In my opinion, the more serious moments of this series are just as enjoyable as much as the comedic moments. I do look forward to watching season 2!
