How I decided to rate anime (basically a note to self):
-STORY: 1/2 Star for interesting setting and or premise + 1/2 Star for engaging plot.
-ANIMATION: 1/2 Star for beautiful and story fittingly drawn world + 1/2 Star for story and world fittingly drawn characters.
Example:Death Note characters and world drawn in PMMM style = probably not fitting.
-SOUND: Subjective; from 0 to 1 Star.
Example: Made in Abyss, Violet Evergarden, OPM, Hero Academy, Kill la Kill = ful star.
-CHARACTERS: 1/2 Star for great antagonist/s + 1/2 for great protagonist/s or 0 to 1 Star for protagonists in Slice of Life.
Bad example: most isekai have boring or OP protagonists with easily or non existent antagonists/villains = bad rating.
Good example: Overlords Ainz is OP, has loyal and powerful allies, is a great tactician, has enough resources to conquer the world a few times over but he is his own enemy because of his paranoia and low self-esteem which he tries to cover up with hillarous results + the reaction of secondary characters to his appearance and actions are interesting to watch = good rating.
-OTHER: Subjective reasons and personal preference can fill in or drain multiple stars.
Example: Starting with bad ones; I dislike unreasonable fan service (examples like Devilman Cryababy fan service is reasonable and theme fitting), I despise incest, loli and ecchi stuff, probably something like Eromanga Sensei acording to what I read about it. I forgive cases like Violet Evergardens relationship to Gilbert (also the 14yo princess writing love letters with a 24yo prince is setting fitting). I am one of those people that ignores the existance of Usagi Drops controversial second part, thus a good rating for that anime. Now on to good examples; cases like Made in Abyss, A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, your name and Anohana are complete masterpieces imo, they already get full points in first four compartments and I would give them more if that would mean anything to anyone, 7/5 perfect rating. I like to give extra points to isekai (altough they are lacking in other departments), especially if they have RPG mechanics, since I love this game genre. I loved the first few episodes of Gate, solely for the culture shock reason, similar reason is Overlord. These cases remind me of my years studying history, especially the early colonial era; Spain in Mexico, or the silk road and the Sino-Roman relations.
