Planetes

Feb 28, 2024

The summary should be more like:  A girl joins the zany, underfunded Space Debris Section of the Technora Corporation and has to learn how to safely use the equipment to collect scrap in space before it can drift into a commercial, or other, vehicle and cause another tragedy.  While working with them, she encounters situations from terrorists to strange men cosplaying as ninjas and starts to fall in love with her space-loving co-worker. -- Story Although the story started out with a girl protagonist, it's instead a rather interesting bait-and-switch as the protagonist is actually one of... Puraore! Pride of Orange

Sep 17, 2022

Occasionally, one stumbles upon a memorable and interesting anime cour which leaves a lasting impression...This ain't it. I'm not sure what this anime was trying to be, but it's a good time-killer. -- Story There's a story in here?  Let's see...a couple middle school girls, on the verge of high school, decide to sign up for a free trial hockey class hosted by the local team (the Dream Monkeys).  They enjoy it enough to keep coming back, and eventually join the team entirely. But instead of being regulated to second-string members, as one would expect of newbies to a team, for some... See full review

Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Jan 10, 2020

I know you're here to find out more about the anime, but to be honest...you'll get the most out of this anime if you know absolutely nothing going into it. So, my suggestion is to stop reading and go watch the anime if you like dark magical girl anime or are just curious. If you go into this knowing anything about it aside from the tags and summary, you'll probably be disappointed. Like I was. Plot The plot leaves much to be desired, as the overall arching plot includes incorrect science (as in, it's literally an impossible premise).  For the majority of the anime, the story is more of just Homura... Psychic Detective Yakumo

Jan 4, 2020

Mediocre. If I had to describe this anime in a single word, that would be it. There are also many glaring issues and plot problems which legit had me muttering at the screen for how stupid everyone was and "why didn't the police do such-and-such".  I trudged through it for answers, but I feel like though this anime had potential, it's honestly just a waste of time. Plot When one of her friends winds up in the hospital due to a suspected haunting/possession, Haruka Ozawa asks for the help of Yakumo Saito who is rumored to be involved with supernatural things from small hauntings to even... Planet With

Sep 8, 2019

I'm not usually a fan of sci-fi; there are very few sci-fi anime I've seen, and even less which I've actually enjoyed.  This series, however, I feel is an overlooked gem between the characters, setting, and especially the tone. "Just what is justice"? That's the theme of this anime, and it's done brilliantly.  It really highlights the philosophical concept behind the word "justice".  And of course for those who aren't as interested in that sort of thing, it's got plenty of mech battles to satisfy those who prefer action.  There's also a "love vs violence"... Pandora Hearts

Apr 27, 2019

This anime is what it looks like if a series just stoppped in the middle.  While the manga is now completed, this anime was made before the manga's completion.  Although some anime aren't too bad when that happens, letting the studio fill in the blanks, Pandora Hearts manages to provide a mystery with no defininitive answer.  The viewer can theorize, and some questions are partially answered, but the plotline is never resolved. This was...a rather interesting, and sometimes terrifying, trip.  Filled to the brim with nightmare fuel in the form of animated dolls and Akira-like moving... See full review

Pokemon Movie 20: I Choose You!

Mar 29, 2018

I had expected this to be another version of the first three episodes of Pokemon with some emphasis on Ho-oh, but it's most definitely not. How do I describe this...? Cliche.  I was pretty disappointed in this movie.  I watched it in the original Japanese with English subs, so I actually had to go look up some of the English names.  XD The Japanese voice acting is very well done, so my rating on "sound" is for that.  The intro song is the intro for the first season of Pokemon, and the Japanese ending song is very pretty.  In fact, the soundtrack is probably the only... PSYCHO-PASS

Mar 15, 2018

I suppose unlike some folks familiar with the studio and the writer, I came into this anime completely unaware of what I was walking into.  I had no expectations, and thought that this was going to be like NCIS. Oh boy, was I wrong.  It instead turned into something more along the lines of Criminal Minds, but on steroids. Story Akane Tsunemori is a new Inspector at the Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division section 1, and her first day on the job puts her straight into the heat of the action and a case of a man whose "psycho pass", a way of measuring a person's... Poco's Udon World

Jan 11, 2017

When I first started to watch this, I didn't really know what to expect.  I wasn't sure what sort of slice-of-life values were going to be in it, and what it was going to focus on and teach.  Of course, the name being what it was, I thought it would have to do with udon; I wasn't completely off base in that, but there was much more to this than udon. Family, growing up, and finding one's place in the world even at the age of 30 was what was presented when I watched it. Plot 30-year-old Souta Tawara, a web designer who had moved to Tokyo, comes back to his hometown in Kagawa after his... See full review

Pokemon Movie 17: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction

May 25, 2015

Like my other Pokemon reviews, this review is based off of the JAPANESE VERSION of the movie, not the English dub.  I will use the English dub names since people will be more familiar with them in the review, however. This was a boring, train wreck of a movie, but I'll attempt to review it. Story There's a "mother" crystal where the Carbink all live, and it is running out of energy and will soon collapse.  The crystal/diamond is extremely important to their livelihood, and the only one who can create another one is their princess, Diancie. However, Diancie isn't strong enough to... See full review

Pokemon Movie 16: Genesect and the Legend Awakened

May 25, 2015

I finally got a chance to watch this movie.  One thing I do want to note is that my review is based off of the JAPANESE VERSION of the movie, not the English dub.  I can't stand the English voice actors for the characters ever since they were changed sometime after Hoenn, I believe, so I haven't watched the English dub since.  I will still use the dub names, since people are more familiar with those. Let's get started. Story Five strange pokemon, Genesect, show up searching for something while we see Mewtwo (who happens to be different from the Mewtwo in the first movie) trying to test... Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal

Jul 22, 2014

Since this is following the manga, which the first anime didn't stray too far from, all of the ratings I'll give this are based on the new things:  animation and sound. In fact, the only reason I gave it more than one star is because it's still the story of Sailor Moon, even if this version isn't visually appealing. One thing I do want to mention is that, though it's following the manga, I (and my friends) all agree that Mamoru/Darien wearing a tuxedo just looks stupid.  Someone said it makes him look like either a vampire or a vampire hunter (due to the medallions, as well). The season is... See full review

Peace Maker Kurogane

Jan 4, 2014

I have mixed opinions on this.  On one hand, I've always found it difficult to find a good Samurai anime ever since watching Rurouni Kenshin, so when I found this, I thought it was great... ...until it started to venture into some supernatural bits which were completely unnecessary to the plot, and didn't even do anything for the characters. In rating the rest of this, I did keep an open mind about it, and will not be comparing it to Rurouni Kenshin.  So, let's start with the worst aspect in the series. Story This was, by far, botched beyond all imagination.  Although the episodes are... See full review

Pokemon Movie 12: Arceus and the Jewel of Life

Dec 11, 2012

So, finally, we have an explanation for the events in movies 10 and 11.  If we were given a little privy of some of the knowledge that was revealed shortly within this movie, movie 10 would have been better and movie 11 would have been easier to understand. Putting the bad timing aside, let's get into the details.  No spoilers in this...go watch it for yourself.  XD Animation...not bad.  There weren't too many needless battle scenes, though the version I was watching glitched in a couple places and I missed out on a couple scenes...but somehow, what I missed didn't seem to matter at... Pokemon Movie 11: Giratina and the Sky Warrior

Dec 10, 2012

Good idea in concept (which is why I didn't give the Story rating a 1), but the execution was horrible.  As I continue to catch up on the Pokemon movies I missed, the next one is Giratina and the Sky Warrior. This review will contain SPOILERS, because it's unavoidable in this case. Animation was overall not too bad; there weren't as many pointless battle scenes or stalling battles as there was in movie 10, but there were still a few areas that seemed to be needless animation (like the beginning). Sound...well, emotion was put in well enough for the characters to make up for the complete lack of... See full review

Pokemon Movie 2: The Power of One

Dec 10, 2012

This is, by far, my favorite amongst all of the Pokemon movies I've seen.  I saw it when it first came out, then later on got to see the Japanese version.  It's the only one I can watch over and over again and not get bored of, but let's take it step by step. The quick ratings are animation and sound... Not a lot of repeated footage, the battling between the three legendary birds not stretched to the point of breaking...yep, near full marks for that.  Animation was great. Sound?  Very close to the original Japanese version.  Even without seeing the Jap version, I'd give it a... See full review

Pokemon Movie 10: The Rise of Darkrai

Dec 9, 2012

Let me try to summarize this...out of all the pokemon movies I've seen, this is by far the worst (though, I have yet to see 11-15, so that might change). Overall, the sound was good, except that the main song the story revolved around (in the dub, at least; perhaps it sounded better in the original, as the dubbers tend to change the soundtracks at times) didn't have an emotional depth to it, and the voice acting was jarring and lackluster in terms of emotion.  Hence, the poor rating on sound.  I'll break the rest down onto three parts: Story Your generic, world is in danger plot that seems... Princess Nine

Apr 22, 2012

Let me start off by saying this: When I picked up this series, I expected to watch an anime about girls forming a baseball team while playing as they went along. I've seen H2, Cross Game, Major, and Ookiku Furikabutte...I'm familiar with the baseball anime/manga genre and what's expected of it. My favorite anime, The Slayers, is a 90's anime.  Ranma 1/2, which will occasionally feature Akane throwing a baseball, also came out of the 90's, as did H2, so I had a general idea of what to expect for a 90's anime, and a 90's baseball anime. What I didn't expect, was to see the main female lead, Ryo... See full review
