Both anime are full of action scenes, however the storyline behind Angel Beats gets fleshed out far more as it's spread over 13 episodes. But Black Rock Shooter still manages to reveal enough to get you interested in it's characters. Both anime also deal with circumstances involving friendship as well.

A fan of one may want to cheek out the other.

Looking Up At the Half-Moon

Looking Up At the Half-Moon

Yuichi is a teenage boy who was diagnosed with hepatitis; and as staying at the hospital is boring, he often sneaks out at night to hang out with his friends. However, each time he is caught by the slightly sadistic nurse Akiko, he just prolongs his stay at the hospital. After his most recent escape, instead of striking a punch or kick at Yuichi, Akiko says that she'll overlook his sneak outs if he becomes friends with 17-year-old Rika, another hospital resident. Rika doesn't open up to him at first, but she has her reasons: she has a weak heart; and though she may come off as selfish and rude, Yuichi looks beyond the surface to help both of them enjoy what life has to offer.

Both of these are thought-provoking anime that will make you look at life differently. During the series, you learn more about the characters while exploring what it means to do what you want with life. If you liked one for its central concept, try the other.

Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends

Kodaka is a delinquent. At least, that’s what his fellow classmates seem to think. Thanks to his naturally-blonde hair and an unfortunate series of misunderstandings, the boy can’t seem to shake his false reputation and hasn’t made a single friend. That is, until one day he overhears the normally-aloof Yozora enthusiastically chatting with an imaginary friend, and discovers that she’s just as lonely as he is! In an attempt to finally meet people the duo decides to form the “Neighbors Club”, and are soon joined by a number of other fellow misfits such as Sena, the busty, popular daughter of the school president who can’t seem to connect with others. Together, the gang learns about the joys of friendship through many misadventures such as playing RPGs, visiting the swimming pool or even hunting down delicious takoyaki!

Angel Beats is fast paced, Boku wa is slower. Both have the same sort of feel, with an isolated group of friends spending a lot of time together, although Boku wa... doesn't have quiet the same back-story that Angel Beats has. Both are more club-activity based, and we see next to nothing of school life itself. While Angel Beats seems to be driven and focused, Boku wa... is calmer and more free flowing anime. Both focus on club activities and a sort of school life, but Angel Beats has more of a supernatural role to it (which is necessary and set up quiet well).

ef: A Tale of Memories.

ef: A Tale of Memories.

In a high school setting, there are many people whose stories must be told: Hiro, an aspiring manga artist whose view of the world is "missing a certain color," according to himself; his childhood friend Kei, who is vying for his attention; Kyosuke, a photographer and cameraman who seeks to capture true emotion in his work; the ever-cheerful Miyako, who meets Hiro by chance and immediately becomes attached to him; the gentle Renji, unsure of his aspirations to become a novelist; and Kei's mysterious and quiet sister Chihiro, who seems to be a different person every day. As time passes and they interact with one another more, their paths increasingly intertwine as shades of regrettable pasts emerge.

Both animes have eye popping beautiful animation with bright colors. For some reason Ef- Tale of Memories reminded me a little bit of Angel Beats! Even though the storylines aren't actually the same, I still recommend any one who likes Angel Beats to watch Ef because they both have beautiful stories that will tug at your heart strings.

Heartfelt stories involving a war, conflict, and Romeo and Juliet esque love yet conquering all opposing forces toward a future of true peace. I would describe more of why but that would involve spoilers.

This is kiiind of a stretch, but I think these two series make a good pair. They're both centered around a group of high schoolers in a crazy, supernatural situation, and switch between comedy, romantic drama and crazy fights. I think Angel Beats is a bit less obtuse than Star Driver--Star Driver probably needs to be watched more than once to really get it--but they still both have a similar "feel" while you're watching them. It's worth giving one a try if you liked the other!

Both animes have a theme of hope and dreams as well as a somewhat suspenseful plot. Both animes are emotional and powerful, though I felt Wolf's Rain is slightly more dark and Angel Beats! has more comedic elements.

Both are a slice of life style anime that deal with real world concepts in a non-real world way. I found it easy to become emotionally invested in both animes, especially Angel Beats!, and this causes a connection to the show.

Also, I recommend the rest of the Clannad series (in the scenario that you've already watched Angel Beats!). If you're going to watch the movie, watch the first Clannad anime season first to get the story the best. Both are very touching/moving series while being heart-warming and playful at the same time.

Both deal with the other side, spirits, your resolve.

They both also have supporting characters that know way more than the main character does.
