The first anime I ever saw was Ninja Scroll on late night TV, I had just finished a night shift and came in halfway through..."WTF is THIS?" I had never seen anything like it- the detailed, fluid animation and adult storyline hooked me.  Too bad I didn't know what it was called and didn't find out until a year later when I caught it again on late night TV.  After that it was all downhill.
