Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team

Jul 19, 2019

Spoiler free review First off: I watched this maybe 15 years ago after hearing rave reviews about it, didn't see what the hype was all about then. Spent a few years in the military after that, did some other stuff for a while (gasp!), then rewatched it recently. The hype... I don't agree with it (more in story and characters). It's got some substancial differences from the main and side Gundam series's. A good chunk of reviews comment on that, and while it's an interesting change from the series's norm, that doesn't actually make it good. Isn't terrible either, it's a watchable mediocre. Story: 4 - No... See full review

Excel Saga

May 9, 2018

Spoiler Free Story: 7 It's a show that parodies everything anime (as of the 90's). It also requires you to have a general knowlage of popular 90's anime to really appreciate it. It changes drasticly from episode to episode, working well about 80% of the time. The remaining 20%... well, there are still 2 episodes that I haven't managed to watch through (turns out I find parodies of animal anime's really stupid). Has a number of running gags throughout the series that tend to work well. Art: 5 Nothing special. Has a degree of varience due to it's parody style, but due to the fact that it's parodying... Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid: A Relatively Leisurely Day in the Life of a Fleet Captain

Mar 5, 2014

Spoiler Free Review First off, this is silly. It's more along the lines of FMP:fumoffu than FMP:TSR. It developes characters a bit, but it's mainly about being silly. The story was rediculess, but that worked given the tone. Animation was comparable to TSR, and sound stayed in the background where it belongs. Overall, I'd recommend this to most people who have watched the series, and definately to anyone who liked fumoffu. The bit with the borsht was... ingenious =P

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid

Mar 5, 2014

Spoiler Free Review Story: 6/10 Well, as pretty much every anime watcher knows, the best way to ruin a good story is to give it a cheap rushed ending. Sadly, thats what they did here. The story continues 3-4 months after FMP left off (fumoffu fills in that gap, there are a few references to it, but if you skipped it, you won't be clueless). The majority of the series gets a 8-9, the story is new, somewhat develops characters, and it interesting. The last couple, get a 2. The ending is extremely rushed, and it feels like they simply ran out of time. There are numerous unresolved parts, and what they did... See full review

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu

Mar 5, 2014

(short) Spoiler Free Rewiew I liked Full Metal Panic, so naturally when I heard they were making a school-life version of it, I avoided it like the plague. Recently I decided to give it a shot since I figured there would be some references to it in FMP:The second raid. I was pleasently surprised by it (fumoffu, not the second raid). Unlike the original, fumoffu is primarily a comedy, but it keeps true to the characters as they were developed in FMP. It's silly and lighthearted, but definately adds something to the FMP universe. Piece of advice though: dont watch the hot springs episode if theres someone... See full review

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny

Jul 23, 2013

Ugh, where to begin.  Contains spoilers (if you can spoil trash)  Story: 3 The story is a weak copy of Gundam SEED (which was a pretty decent reworking of Gundam Wing's story). Been there, done that. Throw in a 'twist' invovlving amnesia, and you've got the recipe for every soap opera out there. Maybe this is just bias on my part, but Mechs do NOT belong in soap operas.  Animation: 3 I'd say a good 10-15% (if not more) of the series is flashbacks taken directly from Gundam SEED. Combine that with a dorky put-the-pieces-togather style mech that recycles footage every time it's deployed... See full review

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing

Jul 23, 2013

This is the show that started me watching anime, and I have a fondness for it, despite it's flaws. I also have a strong dislike for reviews of this series that are overly superficial (or based on the english dub).  Spoiler free review First of all, knock off 3-5 points if you're watching it dubbed in english, as the translation is... different, and a notable amount of meaning is changed or outright lost. In english it's a decent mech anime, that's ruined by rants about pacivism.  Story 7-8/10 At first glance, it's a used storyline. Lotta reviews focus on that, and completely miss the fact... Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA

Jul 23, 2013

A perfect example of how you take a great series, and completely fail with the OVA.  Spoiler free review Story 3/10 The story feels forced, and the characters don't act like they do in the anime. Not too much more I can say without ranting or spoilers though.  Animation 6/10 Similar to the main series, but feels cheaper at points. It was enough for me to dock it a point, and I considered 2.  Characters 1/10 Yes, one point here (it wouldn't let me do 0). The characters were one of the strongest points of the main series, and some of them act so out of sync I ended up checking to see... See full review

Irresponsible Captain Tylor

Jul 23, 2013

One of my favorite anime's of all time, and I'm picky about what I like. Spoiler free review Story: 9/10 It's the story of a clueless, moronic, and irresponsible captain, the most rundown destroyer in the fleet, and it's crew of the most problematic members of the armed forces. It's silly, improbable, rediculess, and even more rediculess. It is NOT a serious show by any means, but is an excelent light watch as long as there arn't people around who will be bothered by fits of laughing. My only issue with the story is a few episodes (maybe 2?) are a bit angsty and while they work, they don't have... See full review
