I LOVE Koisuru Boukun, or The Tyrant Falls in Love, and it is my second favorite manga. Originally Souichi's homophobia turned me off, but then after I returned to it and kept reading I learned it's more of a learned behavior and confusion than anything. Morinaga is very masochistic but because he sees the good in Souichi, enough to look past the bad.
Yeah, it begins with a rape scene, but unlike the anime which ends too early, the manga treats it with real weight and makes it obvious that drugging and/or blackmailing someone into sleeping with you is NOT GOOD. Compare this to other popular manga like Crimson Spell where Havi has sex with Demon Vald which starts as rape and then becomes consentual, which is brushed aside since it's a demon. Or Junjou Romantica where Usagi repeatedly molests Misaki and because Misaki eventually consents and develops feelings for Usagi, it's brushed aside.
Souichi is an amazing and realistic tsundere and I can relate to him a lot. Morinaga I see as less relatable only because he's so perfect it's just... odd. He deserves his nickname of "Angel-kun". The art is much better than other work I've read by the same mangaka, and the plot is written in volume-long arcs without any overall plot other than them growing closer. I thought they all deserved the highest marks.
I totally love this manga and recommend it to anyone who can accept the rape scene for what it is and move past it.
SPOILERS>>>>>I forgot names so imma just call the mc Mori and the other guy "white hair guy". I could see how this story could turn into something good if it wasn't dropped but idk. I don't really mind a bit of dub-con, especially because I love this trope with the homophobe x lgbtq, but when it got to the actual sex scene and the white haired guy was saying things like "I'll never forgive you if you go any further" or "I trusted you" it just really irks me. I MEAN HE EVEN SAID "no stop" MULTIPLE TIMES!!! I know it's common in yaoi for there to just be sexual assault or rape and they still end up in love, but it just makes it harder for me to enjoy the show. like damn bro when white hair kept checking for Mori and they had a cute scene where they made up and were hugging. Then BAM next thing you know Mori wants to fuck again and he said crap like "Well, you can push me off if you really don't want it." and "I'll resign from the school if you don't let me" LIKE HUHHHH??? YOU KNOW WHITE HAIR WAS UPSET IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE YOU BASICALLY RAPED HIM, RIGHT?! TALK ABOUT MANIPULATION. The stuff you be finding in yaoi should be more shocking, but it's just like "Yeah, but that is like every yaoi, are you new here or what?" but still??? I've been reading yaoi for a few years and have read some good ones but I feel like a good chunk tend to be toxic relationships and we read it, normalize it, and then move right on to the next story. I did miss the tags, so it is partially my fault for the unprepared SA, but I'm still gonna take some points off because that doesn't make the story better just because I didn't know. So, it's not a terrible anime but Idk if I can bargain with my morals to read yaoi like this anymore ;-;
CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS
- what really turned me off on this manga is the rope thing..... i wont forget the chapter when morinaga fricked souichi all night till the dawn..... like what the frick was that...... the reason why i decided to read further is, when souichi doesnt really hate it at all.. he said it himself.. and plus im hoping for character development and it didnt let me down coz morinaga actually changed for good gradually, when he finally asks for souichi's consent, however i wont still tolerate the rope thing that happened.
I think I fell in love with the tyrannical sempai myself in the process of reading "The Tyrant Falls in love". Though I hated him through the volumes.. When he doesn't show his feelings, it just leaves a hollow feeling through your chest when morinaga is making so heartfelt attempts to win his love. I knew he cared for morinaga deep down but sometimes we need to see it. I loved how the sempai blushed and stuttered at little flirting. And lastly, I loved their love making. When I started reading this, I thought that the sempai will be the top. Who would have thought it's the other way around. Don't know why I have this mindset of thinking whoever is heighted will be the top. Hehe. It's still an ongoing series. Lets see how it progresses. It's a slow burn for me as of yet. I would have liked it a bit fast pace.
There's alot into this story, it's kinda hard to describe it... you either hate this or love this, there's no inbetween... you gonna absolutely hate some parts of this, but also in some parts, you'll find it adorable, funny and cute... yes
