Taisho Baseball Girls

Jun 1, 2023

Imagine, if you will, an anime about girls attempting to form a team and learn to play baseball to challenge a team aiming for the Nationals...all within the constraints of a 12 episode cour. Twilight-Zone intro reference aside, this anime unfortunately suffers from its attempt to pack in slice-of-life historical drama, romance love triangles, and baseball into 12 slow-paced episodes.  And there's an episode with a movie filming, too.  Yes, you read that correctly. -- Story The anime centers around 14 year old Koume Suzukawa, a "my pace" sort of girl, as she's dragged into... The Boy and the Beast

Oct 11, 2022

I'm going to be perfectly frank:  I didn't understand any of the allegory/symbolism one bit as I always struggle with that sort of thing.  So, all the talk about the whale (Moby Dick).  That aside, the movie was fairly good up until about halfway through...but not without its issues and moments where the audience has to suspend their disbelief. -- Story Nine year old Ren's mother has just died, and since his parents had a divorce and his mother got everything, it meant that his father (whom he hadn't seen in a long time to boot) wouldn't have been able to get custody of him... Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy

Aug 31, 2022

Certainly, when it comes to isekai anime, they tend to follow similar patterns:  The protagonist is either summoned by a higher power, stumbles into a dimensional rift, or meets an untimely end via the infamous Truck-kun.  So while one would presume that "if you've seen one isekai anime, you've seen them all", there are a few anime which, though similar, still don't really fall into that category. Tsukimichi is one of those.  And to be quite frank, I enjoyed it ten times more than That Time I was Reincarnated as a Slime. -- Story Makoto Misumi seems to be an ordinary... See full review

Tomodachi Game

Aug 28, 2022

Warning:  This anime is incomplete despite its "completed" status.  I don't know what is the matter with anime studios the past few years, but for some reason most of them have gotten it into their heads to release a series in a format of making their viewers not only wait a week between episodes (which isn't strange in the slightest), but also stopping at episode 12 and either making viewers wait months before the final 12 episodes come out or just pausing without a word. So yes; this anime is 100% incomplete.  All you'll learn of is the basic plot and a few names in these 12... See full review

The Seven Deadly Sins Movie 2: Cursed by Light

Oct 23, 2021

Fairly slow paced for a movie, yet still manages to fit into the timeline without disturbing any of the events…which is more than the DBZ movies can claim. That said, you’ll want to have caught up on the NnT anime (including all 24 episodes of the final season) or the manga to avoid some mentioned spoilers from the movie itself. -- Story It’s been about half a year since the Demon King was defeated, and everyone is moving on with their lives: Diane and King are preparing (and having) their wedding (with Ban, Elaine, and Gowther in attendance), Meliodas and Elizabeth are... The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Oct 1, 2021

Absolute garbage, compounded by the fact that the "final episode" is in the middle of the worst arc:  The Infinite Eight.  Sorry not sorry, but there is zero excuse to stop a season in the middle.  The series is actually 28 episodes long, but was divided up into two 14-episode cours for some reason...and honestly, after barely making it through this one, I have zero incentive to check out the second cour. If you've got time to kill or like moe, this anime might be for you.  If you want something with good characters, a good plot, and just overall interesting...mayhaps you... See full review

Tamako Market

Sep 29, 2021

This anime is a slice-of-life comedy, and it does its job extremely well.  If you're looking for a light-hearted series which doesn't use "clickbait" methods (aka, cliffhangers at the end of each episode), then this is the one. Fans of K-on! will also enjoy it; it's made by the same studio (which is noticable from the first part of the animation). -- Story There honestly isn't really much of a story as it's not only slice-of-life which changes the theme of each episode each time there's a new one (with only the final couple episodes containing a sort of "to be... The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgement

Jul 5, 2021

Hoo-boy...where do I even begin with this train wreck of a final season? To be fair to this season, it's just the conclusion of the train wreck which spanned from about season three onward.  I didn't review past season 2 because...well, I'd read the manga and I was not going to watch the anime version of it unless I got paid.  Since I'm not getting paid, I'm not going to watch it. The finale, however, I figured I would watch since there were a couple of scenes I really wanted to see animated. And that's not even counting the fact that only the first 12 episodes (of the 24 episode final season)... See full review

Terror in Resonance

Jan 28, 2020

I'm not going to do my usual and complete breakdown, because it's just not worth it.  And for anyone who starts screaming:  "You're reviewing it when you dropped it!?  WHUT!?", I read the rest in the Wiki and was glad that I dropped it, thank you. If you want a full, in-depth (good) review of this, check out the review done by ThatAnimeSnob.  Honestly, he says it all better than I can because dang...this is another example of "overhyped when it's actually crap". -- The Story is simple:  A couple guys with numbers for names (and if that doesn't scream "I... Trickster

Jan 3, 2020

This anime in a nutshell:  This is the result of what happens when a psychopath and a sociopath get bored and seek thrills with each other. ...as well as all the lives they destroy (sometimes literally) along the way. It's not the worst anime I've seen, but it's far from being the best, either.  It did have potential, but there was no commitment into said potential. Plot There are two interlacing plots in this anime.  The first and most interesting of them is the mystery of the "zombie boy", Yoshio Kobayashi.  Why can't he die?  What's the trick to his strange... The Royal Tutor

Sep 3, 2019

It's time for a lesson! Honestly, I'd like to know why it took me this long to find this anime; it's lighthearted, fun, amusing, and easy to re-watch.  What it lacks in an overarching plot, it makes up for in its cast of colorful characters as well as how it concludes each episode's problem in a satisfactory way. ...plus, I love it whenever Heine says "You need a lesson". Plot/Story Heine Wittgenstein is personally selected by the King of Glanzreich to teach the King's four youngest sons (ages 14, 15, 16, and 17) both material they should know for general education as well as what it... The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments

Jan 12, 2019

Although this season did still follow the manga (and answer a leftover question I had from the first season as to just how exactly a Grand Master Holy Knight managed to hit Elizabeth with his attack), the pacing of the anime itself started to crumble, and the plot started to show gaping holes. That said, it was still a good season and followed the manga fairly well. Plot Hendrickson/Gray Demon was defeated, but it's not over yet as evil continues to plot on how to break the seal and unleash the demons.  In particular, Meliodas is concerned about a group of powerful demons known as the "Ten... The Seven Deadly Sins

Jan 7, 2019

I was surprisingly sucked into this anime.  The aesthetics are a little different from what I'm used to seeing as the lines are much rounder (especially noses).  I didn't know anything about the series before going into it as I found it when browsing Netflix, but I'm a little surprised there isn't more hype for this series. Plot A girl, who turns out to be a princess, stumbles into a remote tavern run by a mysterious and short man (and his friend, a talking pig) and passes out.  When she comes-to, she reveals that she is looking for the infamous Seven Deadly Sins; a group of criminals who... The Seven Deadly Sins Movie: Prisoners of the Sky

Jan 6, 2019

Available to watch via Netflix.  The more I thought about the movie, the more I realized that it had potential to be much more than it was.  I'm not saying it was bad by any means; lately anime movies have not been living up to the series from which they came.  "Prisoners of the Sky" is an interesting and amusing movie, but nothing really out of the ordinary.  The timeline is somewhere in the "Revival of the Ten Commandments" season. Plot A case of mistaken identity; as Meliodas (and Hawk) are looking for flying fish to prepare for Bartra's birthday (while the... See full review

The World God Only Knows

Nov 14, 2018

I put this off for the longest time, and part of me wishes that I had continued to put it off.  As a comedy, it's got its moments (but still pales in comparison to other comedy anime out there)...but as anything else, it fails miserably.  I think the best word to describe this anime by episode 7 or 8 is:  STALE. Story Keima Katsuragi is known as the "God of Conquest" for constantly playing dating/sim games and being able to get to the ending (and get the girl) no matter what.  One day, he accepts a challenge of conquest, just to find out that it was from a messenger of Hell... The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

Nov 10, 2018

When I read the summary and some spoil-free reviews, I expected an extremely light hearted comedy.  What I got was certainly comedic in many ways, but it had plenty of moments so relatable that it hurt, as well as romantic tension (get your minds out of the gutter; I said "romantic tension", not "sexual tension").  ;p Story Sorata Kanda is a second year at Suiko High School, and was kicked out of the normal student dorms for hiding a stray cat in his room.  He was sent to Sakurasou, a small dorm full of the "crazy" students and oddballs who don't quite fit into... The Devil is a Part-Timer!

Oct 17, 2018

Finally, an anime which lives up to the hype I've heard about it.  While it isn't perfect by any means, it does the job it's supposed to do as a light-hearted, slice of life comedy. Story After a battle in another world which decimates nearly all of his forces, Satan/the Maoh (Demon King) of the land and one of his servants flee to a random world via the gate...the random world being modern-day Japan on Earth. From there, he learns that he has to do things the human way to get by and live in this new world until he can recover his magic in order to go back...if he even wants to. (Note:  My... Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Mar 16, 2018

I'm not sure where to start with this one.  It's only 11 episodes long, but the amount of emotions it can make someone feel can compete with the "full season" anime (25+ episodes). I'm going to try hard to avoid spoilers.  There's a section in the "Overall" heading at the end of this review where I have to touch on spoilers (though I put a lot of warnings before it, and even then I kept names and such out).  The rest is spoiler-free. Story Siblings Mirai and Yuuki, who were visiting a Robot Convention in Odaiba, suddenly find themselves in the midst of an earthquake... See full review

The Disappearance of Conan Edogawa: The Worst Two Days in History

Jan 12, 2017

This is a tough one to review without giving away any major spoilers and characters.  Thus, this review might be a little shorter than my normal reviews. I can say that I certainly wasn't expecting this, but in a good way.  There were plot twists and turns all over the place, and I found it much more enjoyable than the official yearly movies have been for the past couple years. Plot Two men in another country hire a hitman in Japan to take out a target unknown to the audience.  There have been some background news cases about bombs, and someone who was given the task to drive a truck... The Last: Naruto the Movie

Jun 16, 2015

While this wasn't the best anime movie I've seen, it certainly wasn't the worst (*cough-Fullmetal Alchemist Star of Milos-cough*). I didn't give it an audio rating, because the quality I saw it in was quite poor.  Also, I'd like to point out that I had only been taking peeks at the Naruto manga for the past few years (I stopped reading it entirely after Shikamaru avenges Asuma).  I did look at Wiki, however, and the peeks I took at it (plus some nice background info thanks to the Naruto Wiki) provided me with what I needed to know. Story Let's be honest...there's really no plot, here... See full review
