Kimi ni todoke is THE romance anime. There are no other topics to it. That lovey-dovey cheesy stuff is really enoyable if you like it and it's funny. Even though kuronuma and kazehaya are the main characters I really like the development of the side characters.
The usual hardships you have in romance anime are (of course) here too but somehow it has this weird kind of special thing that brings you to like it. 

So if you're into athletic boys and all kinds of girl personalities, this is the right thing for you.
