This is one those anime's that past me by and I never looked back. It took many years from a friend telling me to check it out before I did and boy I cant belive I passed this one up for so long!

Story

I am one who enjoys comedies, especially ones with lots of parodies and nonsense humor. This story definately delivered for me. The plot in the begining is simple enough but becomes so much more after just a few episodes. As more characters are introduced the chaos builds and the main character Harima becomes more and more deranged, delusional, and confused which makes for a great time. The story seems to focus more on Harima's passion for Tanma rather then Tanma's love for Karasuma, So the love triangle setup does last long. In the end the anime is more or less about Harima's struggle to gain Tanma's effections but is consistantly hindered by his delusions and other characters getting in the way. At the end of the first season they seem to wrap it up in a creative and fun way that leaves the story open for next season.

Animation

The animation seems to be the standard s tyle of that time period, pretty basic but it keeps a pretty realistic color pallete. I do appreciate however the use of dramatic detail in charcters faces, or the occasional dramatic still frame shot. They seem to take care in making sure that everything gets animated, nothing annoys me more then characters that will freeze frame while another talks, or crowds of people standing in the background that are "paused". This anime seems to not suffer from this as much.

Sound

I watched this one in english and I have to say the dub was very well done. All the characters sound the part and work well. I have to say though, Harima's voice takes some getting used to, its a little "mature" sounding at first but quickly settles into a normal tone after a few episodes and his "badass" bravado dies down. The Intro and Outro songs are memorable and upbeat and set the tone for this series.

Characters

Almost all the characters that are introduced have a major role at least once or twice in the season. In the first half most of Tanma's friends play large parts while the rest of the class is left in the background, eventually several other classmembers have thier own little "showcase" episode with a little backstory and then they dissapear from the spotlight only to return later in the "school festival".

Overall I love this anime, after only 2 episodes I was hooked. I highly reccomend this to anyone who enjoys love stories with a touch of insanity.
