009-1

Oct 31, 2018

This series takes place in an alternate timeline. The clothes, cars and the east vs west thing are pretty much out of the 60s, it was so much so that I thought I was having flashbacks. However because it is in an alternate timeline, there are some futurstic weapons, devices and even cities on the moon. The whole thing plays out like its a 60s vision of the future. The main character is a cyborg/spy and the entire series revolves around her. There are no really interesting characters until the last 3 episodes which have a story arc. The other episodes are pretty much stand alone stories. The animation is pretty simple, think Hanna Barbera, the drawing is bad especially the characters, which all seem to be semi-caricatures, the backgrounds are simple, the only thing that impressed me were the cars, which seemed to be alternate versions of 60s cars, there was a roadster based on the 63 Sting Ray, a 4 door sedan based on a 63 Riviera, and one of those Italian cars that had one wheel in the back and the door on the front. There was more effort put into drawing the cars than drawing anything else, except our herione. The main character was drawn well, compared to the others, the men especially were poorly drawn. But 009-1 was drawn well and she was certainly attractive. Her breasts had machine guns in them, how that works we are never told.

There is a lot of implied sex and some nudity, her breasts don't have nipples though. Most of the action takes place in Europe, with one episode on a tropical island, and one in America. It is a pretty forgetable series, the one problem I had was that whatever streaming site I was getting it from the sound was mostly out of sync with the video, so I'd hear what they said and then later the subtitles would show up. It does have some good music and that 60s vibe, which is what hooked me. If you want to see what and alternate 60s might be like, watch this.

6/10 story
5/10 animation
4/10 sound
6/10 characters
7/10 overall
