WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL! I do not see why this anime gets so much praise, and I am sure the manga is just as overrated.
BIG SPOILERS-FREE REVIEW; CONTINUE READING IF YOU THINK ABOUT WATCHING BESERK
POINT ONE
- Why on earth did it take nearly 23 episodes for the show to catch up to the first episode?
- The pacing felt god awful.
- Towards the end, I skipped through a bunch of stuff. There was an entire episode based on the main character (Guts) leaving his gang. Why did we need an entire episode for that?
POINT TWO
- Why is there one depressing song playing in every episode?
- Do they not have anything better to convey the right mood? Altogether, they should take out some of those unnecessary scenes.
- Casca (a blowup doll; also kind of a main character) has a dreadful voice. She sounded annoying in the first half and beyond irritating in the second.
- I could hear Goku so many times that it became a game of how many times I could spot Sean Schemmel's voice.
- The voice actors were either mediocre or sorry. When they cried, yelled, or expressed any concern, I felt pretty uncomfortable.
POINT THREE
- An anime made in the 90s is not an excuse for poor animation and art styles.
- Casca looks like a blowup doll, the characters barely blink or move their jaws when speaking, and there are so many still frames with a simple pan.
- There was a moment when they zoomed in on the King's face for a full minute. No blinking. Just a still frame.
POINT FOUR (THE ONE YOU GUYS LIKE)
- Until the last few episodes, I did not understand why people thought this was a great example of dark, edgy, and mature themes.
- Beserk felt so corny until the end. NONETHELESS, they took so damn long talking before the crazy stuff began.
- By now, you probably can tell that I am not fond of Casca. The only thing I "like" about her is that she has a feminine body.
- The only reason Casca holds any significance is because she has a female's body. Everything that came her way was because she has a female frame. Could not have been any clearer with what message they were trying to emphasize.
- Casca's character is literally the personification of a woman's mishaps.
- THAT ENDING WITH GRIFFITH THO
- I was locked in sheer suspense as I watched the events unfold.
- The look in Griffith's eyes. Casca's silent screams. Guts' undying struggle. All phenomenal tools in telling an enthralling story. Beserk gets an extra half a star rating for the last two episodes.
- (Griffith is another "main" character)
