I am a fan of any sort of film medium. I am not an art critic but as long as I can see whats going on and the story is written well, I dont care.
My very first anime was Devil May Cry. I had just finished the first game and I thought that the anime looked cool. It is still on my top anime that I have watched so far (Coincidentally, all of the games in that series except for 2 and DMC: Devil May Cry are my favorite games of all time). Dante is a freaking badass.
I rely on a lot of outside recommendations on what I should watch and my list reflects that. I use Anime-Planet for the purpose that it was created: to recommend anime and to keep track of watched and currently watching anime. Sometimes I will spend a little bit of time away from a series and then come back to it but I forget what episode I was on.
I like a lot of goth shows, movies and anime. Theres just something about the dark side that draws me in. But dont let that be a reflection on my character. The darkness is just so interesting is all. I also like a lot of shows that have deeper meanings. XXXholic is a good example of this.
When it comes to watching anime, I dont just watch the first episode of the series and base all of my judgements on that. I usually wait about 3 or 4 episodes before I decide if I will continue or not. As the scholars say, "Patience is a virtue."
Whenever I rate an anime I usually start with how much I liked the anime and then take half a star off if I don't feel like the anime was given a conclusive ending, if the anime wasn't developed enough, if it had potential but didnt follow through, or if an anime might not be accessible to non anime viewers. For example, I loved Elfen Lied but felt that the ending wasn't conclusive enough. That being said, a lot of the anime that I really enjoy and have on blu ray have been knocked down .5 or 1 stars due to the above criteria
I dont really read a lot of manga but I will if I like a series enough. I dont really plan on reading all of my "want to read" list. I just wanted to have some options for the future.
My favorite anime has to be the When They Cry franchise. That includes Higurashi and Umineko. The only one from that series I dont like are the first 3 Kira OVAs.
