a story about identity, escapism, denial and the power of imagination, with a healthy helping of awkward-but-believable romance thrown in for good measure. the series is largely comedic (and later rom-comedic) in nature, barring some fairly heavy reveals towards the end of the first season that serve to explain why a high schooler is still chuuni-ing around with seemingly all her attention focused on the pseudo-delusional narrative she's built up for herself. the main character is ... TIIIIIIA FUCKING FREYREEEEEEEEEEEEE (spoilers) comfy semi-traditional "if you can believe it you can do it" (Der Glaube zur Macht?) friendship adventure with amazing vistas, intrigue, action, cool and competent female characters and a goofy hero you can't help rooting for (or smack with a brick). visual quality is what i'd expect from TRIGGER, animations are plasticine and smooth with easily recognizable character designs for the main cast and beautiful european-style architechture galore. if the series wasn't explicitly set in the era of the mobile phone it'd bring to mind a piece of 18th... pretty much just "humanity fuck yeah" for people that still want to racemix with elves. decent until the point the loli kills 4 different special forces teams at an onsen and gets horny. would have preferred meandering navel-staring about the horrors of modern industrialized war and how brutal the JSDF's reprisal is when viewed from a medieval POV. they kill a dragon with a rocket launcher tho, that's pretty cool. definitely unique and the "ride of the valkyries" homage scene never disappoints

See full reviewmore character growth in 2 episodes than most shows have in an entire season. very fucking good. i'd even recommend the english dub, it's well made
