I was largely unimpressed with this adaptation. Although I loved the "feel" of it being closer to the original, the liberties that were taken with the story and characters was just too much for me. I suppose this fits into the alternate history, "what if" category. It presents an interesting conclusion, in that it's different, but different isn't always good, and the change doesn't suit Saya at all, in my opinion.
The story was pretty standard fare as far as the series is concerned, nothing special, aside from the major plot twist at the end (no spoilers, sorry). Art was decent, and refreshing if perhaps one is tired of the style seen in Blood+. Characters... Saya was butchered personality-wise, but I'm sure some people prefer her this way, I don't know. Overall, I just wasn't feeling it. I can't say I would ever recommend this, other than as a "what if" scenario.
