too old to give a fuck.

i was a chef. i am a programmer.
i'm learning japanese with manga.
i learned how to sew by making a sofa from scratch.
i sing well, play violin badly, and still don't know how to let go.

i have opinions. sometimes i share them. i also write about anime on occasion and am entirely to blame for the contents of this recap section on tvtropes.com. i'm sorry.

i don't have a '3-ep-or-drop' rule; every show is different. if it's compelling? i'll watch until i can't stand it anymore.

i tried, shield hero. (7 episodes.) kill la kill. (4 episodes.) i tried.

i will shitcan a series for many, many reasons that won't bother other people:

• cardboard characters;
• poorly-integrated CGI;
• writing checks the story won't be able to cash (and confusingly edited or directed scenes are a huge tell for me);
• hamfisted exposition done with a straight face;
• 'lovable' perverts. just NO.
• a surplus of unquestioned misogyny or reactionary politics. yeah...
• oh, and i really, really loathe plots that exist solely as an excuse for teenaged girl fanservice. like WTF, japan.

you can call me an elitist, but i think naruto's characters are great; i loved the first two seasons and will stan gaara until i die. the sub vs dub debate is a religious argument -- worship however you want. though you can usually find me on team sub, sitting on the bench. hi!

not interested in hating on popular shit just because it's popular. life is too short.

outside of harem shows, moe-bait, lolicon shite, or isekai, i'll give almost anything a fair shake. i'm all in for:

• character-driven stories
• unconventional character designs and animation
• realistically-written love stories
• suspense
• dry humor
• vampires and/or ゴスロリ fashion
• and mindfuckery. oh yes. i'm dark like that.

if a title appears in my favorites that would otherwise merit an automatic #swipeleft by my standards? i reckon it's got some redeeming qualities.

oh, and if it's not super-obvious, my avatar is probably my favorite overpowered protagonist.
