A Silent Voice

ZaeXY's avatar

Has a story's characters ever seemed so real, so augmented, that tears are brought to your eyes? Somehow, I feel like I've been enlightened, as though I've just ascended to a mountain's summit and contemplated the most profound of things, things that we humans always avoid asking ourselves. 'A Silent Voice'...I would probably not have picked this up until next year, if a certain pal of mine hadn't recommended it to me. I had been feeling really devastated by a lot that was happening in my life. I was thinking about sooo much and yet so little seemed to make sense. So to speak, life - everything really ... this anime is just a worse attack on titan, the animation is clearly budget the fights being more slideshows than combat. The power scaling is nonexistent with characters that are meant to be strong losing every fight there in, the story is obvious and the characters are flat. dont watch this just watch aot and if you liked aot you might not dislike this but you wont like it either.

Medaka Box - Abnormal
Everything that Medaka Box had in season 1 has been completely thrown overboard here. Yes, the series still has a far below average entertainment value as a shounen. However, this season consists of non-stop fights, with disastrously boring cliché opponents. There is almost no trace of "humor and satire" here anyway. The entire flow of this season consists of introducing the new enemies and fighting them all the time between episodes 3-12. And since "plot armor" is practically the protagonist's power, of course, they win. With Medaka, it's less... See full review

Okay, first off, CLEARLY some people don't watch bl/gl/yaoi/yuri etc. Yes I agree some parts were a lil bit sus and all but I actually enjoyed the story because there was a happy eneding where all the matters were solved. The two leading characters were quite interesting with a femboy and celebrity in a relationship. If you're getting really pressed about two genders kissing each other or fucking then I don't think this genre is for you. Sexual assault happens a lot irl so the sceen in the construction site was showing that and the struggles of him looking feminine. It sounds really bad when I say it like... See full review

Story - 9/10 - Amazing storyline overall, it's all well thought out, with interesting explanations to the living dolls and shadows as well. It's a great idea, similar to The Promised Neverland, but better. The idea of having living dolls serve as "faces" to their shadow masters is really interesting, and it makes me want to read the manga to know WHY they serve as faces. However, the soot monsters came up a lot in the series, which didn't bug me that much, but I wish there were other forms of monsters in Shadows House. Animation - 10/10 - I loved the character designs, opening, ending, the... See full review

This was a surprisingly good movie for the whole family. The story is pretty average adapting from Aladin in a Chinese setting but there is enough variation to keep you entertained. And while the story is just the latest iteration of a classic tale making a little predictable, everything is executed really well and that is what brings this movie to life. I enjoy many of the changes like the addition of martial arts and mythology, is a good twist that sets it apart of so many variations of the Aladin tale. The characters, the comedy, the excellent 3d animation, and especially the music work... See full review

Medaka Box

Oct 4, 2021

Medaka Box I watched the anime first and read the manga afterward out of curiosity. And as I expected, the third arc in the manga (right where the anime left off) is the best. Everything that comes before and after is almost a waste of time. But wait! Medaka Box is a "satire" anime manga, right? Shouldn't this be entertaining in some way then? It parodies shounen/manga cliché, character stereotypes, cliché scenes are poked fun at. Everything is present. Even the use of the "plot armor" aspect, in terms of plot. What could go wrong? First and foremost, the type of humor... See full review

Nihon Chinbotsu 2020
Japan Sinks I've been watching anime for ages and always thought I'd hit the bottom of the barrel and I couldn't find a worse anime. But with "Japan Sinks" a new bar has been created for me. At first, I thought I could compare this anime to "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0" because they have a very similar setting. And I already realized in episode 1 what a stupid idea this was and that the comparison ended quickly.
This anime is, without exaggeration, even worse than the American blockbuster -2012- which is one of the most famous movies, both for its budget and its... See full review

I was led to Anonymous Noise because it was recommended by HIDIVE as related to Non Non Biyori.  Related?  Ehh ... yeah?  I can see the parallels.  Momo and Suguru are like two peas in a pod.  One loud-mouthed and moody the other quiet and gentle-natured.  I saw both play the guitar in a scene from their respective series.  Renge does look a little like Nino in Alice-mode ... 'cept for the decibels.  Related?  For whatever reason (I'm putting my money on momentary dementia) someone at HIDIVE led me from the serene world of Non Non Biyori to the chaotic one in... This is a very cerebral show, best watched while paying a lot of attention because it's not the sort that you can follow passively. Even then, you might be at a loss for what the story is really saying. Story: We follow a group of classmates who have found themselves (and their school building) sent into another dimension. Not only that, they've all been given some kind of special power. At first, we follow their initial squabbles and exploration as they get used to their powers and the rules of this strange new world, but eventually the show shifts gears into a very high-brow/abstract look into the... This potentially clichéd Water Polo version of any sports anime had a twist in the beginning of episode 1 where the main character Minato wakes up from his coma. For the last 203 days he was asleep which made him lose his memories of the last three years of middle school where he was the best water polo player in Japan. In the meantime, he forgets his former teammates who are happy to see him finally awake but regretful that he doesn't remember who they are.  Come High School he is eager to play water polo again to get his memories and also make new ones with new people. Predictible events in the show also I feel like the female characters are too.. Slutty, for example eri was looking quite good before (I know, she changed after the fight with her dad) but she turned into a slut look-a-like.. Not to mention rena.. I'm not sure why a fair number of people have really hyped up this show as much as I've been hearing lately. It got me to watch it, but I'm left very underwhelmed by what I've seen. Because the entire time I watched it I couldn't help but think that this is just Nisekoi re-skinned. Switch around Chitoge and Onodera's starting positions and keep their personalities - and you get Osamake. The only things unique and interesting about this anime is the self-awareness. The title is obviously a joke at the trope that the childhood friend never wins in a romance or harem anime. They take the self awareness... See full review

The Seven Deadly Sins Movie 2: Cursed by Light

The best part of this movie is the animation. Compared to Season 2 and 3 this seems like it got the animation budget. No more season of white liquid. No more weird, high school level animation. But that's the end of it.  The plot feels heavily rushed and compressed. In trying to bring some closure and fill some of the potholes in the plot they did nothing but add a bunch more. Without going in spoilers, a few characters were brought up and some information to what happened to them. But the ending just leaves everything hanging around, flapping in the wind. What happens NEXT? What happens to the things... See full review

Record of Lodoss War

The classic fantasy anime, Record of Lodoss War has some great things about it, along with a fair amount of mediocrity that holds it back.  First, the visual design is excellent.  Some of the scenes and animations are gorgeous even by modern standards with excellent old school hand drawn animation.  That said, some are terrible.  There are a few scenes where a beautiful drawn dragon isn't even animated and moves through the scene like a cardboard cutout.  The character designs are excellent.  The plot on the other hand is simplistic, yet told in a method that is barely coherent... While the animation is nothing to scoff at, I think the real star of this movie is the story telling. I was constantly left in wonder on what the outcome would be, while also being so invested in the characters that I shared emotions with them. It's not often that a title drop gives me cold chills to the degree that this movie did. Often when i'm watching movies like this it feels as if there is no sense accomplishment or impact of the events that take place. If you're coming from the original Soul Eater don't expect a good continuation or a good prequel. As the title tell you its NOT Soul Eater. Its an alright slice of life that moves away from the gritty Gothic themes of the original. The best parts of the show were the cameos of characters from the original show. The action scenes are lackluster compared to the original Soul Eater. The characters were pretty good but got overshadowed by the side characters because for some reason their 10 times more interesting imo.

Instead of it going on for a whole episode, with struggles between the two characters that are fighting, the fights only go on for about ten minutes. It's almost the same every time too, with Setsuna or Towa defeating the demon, while Moroha either uses her rouge or just isn't included in the fight. Dark real life topics are covered for once in anime- eating disorders, stalkers, sexual assualt, in such a relatable way that really built an audience connection with the cast. I looked forward to the next episode every time. Not to mention, the intro and outro are honestly a jam. Absolute garbage, compounded by the fact that the "final episode" is in the middle of the worst arc:  The Infinite Eight.  Sorry not sorry, but there is zero excuse to stop a season in the middle.  The series is actually 28 episodes long, but was divided up into two 14-episode cours for some reason...and honestly, after barely making it through this one, I have zero incentive to check out the second cour. This is a review of a person who read the manga of this anime.
Since its in a movie form, it won't cover everything that's in the manga. They skipped some chapters (which is inevitable) and they also changed many things and scenes.  Timeline definitely have changes (but it's fine). It's loyal to the plot of Rio and Yuna's love story in the manga. (But of course, there were scenes and events that were skipped.) In Akari and Inui's story, it's a little different since a character that's involved in their story was removed. And also, their story was happening on the time when the... See full review

She is just there, waiting as an NPC in a game for her to be defeated. Her whole idea that the goal of the war was to create balance does not make any sense, either. On top of that, all the dialogues also are very difficult to take seriously. Really, this is just a cash grab: some service for the fans. Honestly, Seven Deadly Sins stopped being Seven Deadly Sins long time ago. This is one of the worst anime... See full review

Samurai Girls

SPOILERS AHEAD  "I expected nothing from the world, because expectations lead to disappointment." A direct quote from the final episode of Sotsu that sums up my experience with this entire series perfectly. My God, I shouldn't have watched this season out of my house because I was so close to punching a nearby kid. That's how angry and frustrated I am. Sotsu is basically Gou but through Satoko's perspective!! It's the same retracing, recapping, reusing and recycling of the first season that just ended last winter !!! It's the same exact conflict. Rika and Satoko are still fighting each... See full review
