B: The Beginning

Nov 10, 2020

TL;DR- It was okay, but had a lot of wasted potential. Has great production value. Really great animation sequences, particularly during some of the battles. Never had any noticeable moments where characters, anatomy, environments, etc., were warped. Audio was also very good - great OP/ED, and the voice actors/actresses have really nice voices. There were a couple of interesting twists. Where it struggled was with story and genre. It starts off very slow, and you're pretty much in the dark about everything until more than halfway through the series when they finally sit down and explain things. I... See full review

Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It

Oct 14, 2020

Seemed like it had a lot of potential, but the execution fell short. The overall premise seems like it'd be hilarious and heartwarming. The animation is fine, and the overall sound is fine as well. But the writing is... not bad, but off? The scenes are weirdly paced. I was never hooked into or interested in what was happening. There's no build-up to anything, stuff just happens. The characters also have premises that make sense, but for some reason, the writing just didn't hit the mark. The jokes weren't funny, the results of experiments were obvious from a mile away, and each episode ends with... See full review

Rent-A-Girlfriend

Oct 2, 2020

TL;DR - Show had a lot of potential, but the main character is complete fucking garbage. Beautiful artwork, great voice actors and actresses, and most if not all of the characters had interesting backstories. The show was honestly set up to be a phenomenal, successful rom-com. But all of it is just thrown down the garbage because the main character is such a worthless piece of shit. It physically hurts to watch him at times. I know the idea is that the MC is socially awkward and struggles to get a girlfriend, but I've never met anyone in my entire life who's that fucking cringy. Even the most... See full review

Black Fox

Oct 11, 2019

Overall, it's okay. Bits and pieces of it sort of make it difficult to take seriously. In general the anime is okay. There's an actual story, which is nice given the amount of crap there is nowadays. The characters' motivations and behavior mostly make sense given the context, and the animation quality / choreography of fights is pretty superb. However, here are my issues with the movie, which in my opinion reduced its overall impact: ** SPOILERS FOLLOW ** MC lacks real depth. You never really feel any of the suffering she might've felt from watching her dad and grand-dad die in front of her. The... See full review

Just Because!

Dec 30, 2017

TL;DR - I would have scored this a 9/10, but the ending fucking kills me. Overall it was a really good show. If you enjoy romances and slice-of-life anime then this one does a good job of combining both as well as doing an exceptional job with character development. It does have a happy ending, although maybe not necessarily in the form you'd expect. *** MINOR SPOILERS FOLLOW *** Story - 7/10 Story is pretty normal. It's good in that it makes sense, flows cohesively, and helps make the characters shine. But at the same time, it is also a slice-of-life, and they didn't really do anything exceptional or... Tales of Zestiria: The X

Feb 27, 2017

UPDATE - The show gets substantially better in the last two episodes. But I'm disappointed I had to watch the whole thing before it got better. TL;DR - They had the chance to expand into story and animate some great stuff from the game. They didn't. It's boring, it skips around too much, it moves too quickly, and none of the charm, the excitement, or the beauty from the game transferred to the anime. Also, why the hell did we suddenly devote two episodes in the middle of this to Berseria, when it didn't do anything to educate viewers on Zestiria's background? Story (2.5/5) So much of the good stuff... See full review

True Tears

Nov 22, 2016

TL;DR - Well that was disappointing Okay, if I had to give this anime a metaphor, I'd compare it to a really good athlete that just didn't prepare properly before the big race. So he/she starts off the race strong, but then the lack of preparedness comes back to bite them in the ass and they end up face-planting into a pile of shit. And so runs the True Tears anime. When it first started, I honestly kind of liked it. Although it was somewhat rather cliche (utilizing the never-would-happen-in-real-life scenario where the girl of MC's dreams is living with him in the same house. Why? Because plot... Corpse Princess: Kuro

Sep 4, 2016

TL;DR - There was potential, but it's totally sabotaged by poor voice acting and P.O.S. characters. *** REVIEW CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS, AND IS A REVIEW OF BOTH SHIKABANE HIME: AKA AND SHIKABANE HIME: KURO *** Story ( 2.5/5 ) The story misses the mark for me. Parts of it are just fine - the idea of corpses is just fine, and the idea of priests using other corpses to fight said corpses is also cool. The part that absolutely dies for me is that: They hardly go into any in-depth detail about any of the characters, meaning you can't really become attached to them, relate to them, or understand why they're... Cross Game

Aug 15, 2016

TL;DR - This show is great if you're looking for something on the lighter side with more focus on character development. I'd summarize it as something fun, a little light, with touches of action, humor, and romance. ***MINOR SPOILERS FOLLOW*** Story - 8/10 The story is good, in my opinion. There is a solid foundation for building up expectations for characters, and for the most part, things flow really smoothly. Rarely, if ever, did I watch a scene and not understand why it happened or how it happened (unlike some other shows, where the only reaction I ever have is "WTF?". Watch Big... See full review

High School Fleet

Jul 3, 2016

UPDATE - (fully watched) Hm. After finishing and mulling it over, I'm beginning to appreciate the series a bit more. I think the previous comments below still apply, but I think the writers of this anime were aiming to fuck with you. Just like the characters in the show, the show itself was a series of back-and-forth, back-and-forth action to slice-of-life. At first I was frustrated, but now I realize that there was some level of genius involved in how well they managed to do this.  UPDATE - (6 eps. in) I'm beginning to understand why the average score is low 3 stars. The issue for me is the... See full review

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

May 17, 2016

UPDATE (FULLY WATCHED) - ***SEMI-SPOILER*** The ending sucks. I'm confused whether the show is going to have a second season or if it's supposed to be over. And Biba as a villain makes absolutely no sense. I would rate the series overall at 3.75/5, but I'll be nice and round it up to 4. UPDATE (11 episodes in) - Most of my initial review still applies, but Mumei turned out to be a naive, whiny little b*tch. Shame. Also, it feels a little rushed. One of the biggest issues I have found in animes is that some storylines just do not fit well within the 12 or 13 episode broadcast season. This show is one of... See full review

Magical Warfare

Jan 5, 2016

TL;DR Could've been pretty good, but wasn't. In fact, it was borderline terrible. Story Like with many other animes that had great potential, this anime is based off of a light novel series that is, at least by my standards, pretty decent and interesting. Although it loses points for multiple, typical anime/manga clichés, the story can be described as, for all intents and purposes, entertaining. But the problem with this anime, like many others, is that it tries to cram a bunch of complexity and information into too few episodes. And, to add insult to injury, this particular anime...
