Mardock Scramble: The First Compression

Mar 10, 2017

Ever sit back and think, what am I doing with my life? That's what you will ask yourself after watching Mardock Scramble. The show has good animation. It has some cool matrix style action, but what anime doesn't? Not much else is offered in 58 minutes of this confusing, creepy tit-fest. Mardock Scramble has a strange fan base. Fans of the show say the plot is deep, the themes are mature, ooh philosophy. Talking about rape does not mean the anime is mature. It comes across as disturbing and doesn't really offer an intelligent discourse on the topic of human sexuality. The show feels icky. About 20- 30... See full review

Serial Experiments Lain

Jan 21, 2017

Lain was one of those anime that plagued my recommendation lists. "Because you liked Steins;Gate, Casshern Sins, and When they Cry, watch Serial Experiments Lain". I put it off for a long time. The main reason for my hesitation in undertaking this series, is because of pseudo-intellectuals who wanted to appear sophisticated and intelligent because they watched Lain and could now explain the universe to the plebeian cattle. (Yes that was sarcastic). I didn't want to be roped into an anime that was intolerably boring or confusing so that I could feel initiated and flaunt my advanced tastes in anime... See full review

Berserk (2016)

Jan 4, 2017

I'm sorry to have wasted my time and the time of others who I convinced to jump on the berserk 2016 dick-I mean bandwagon. This is coming from a huge fan of the 97 series. Berserk 97 had a depth of characters, plot, and message, the likes of which are rare. You will find none of that depth in berserk 16. Those in charge of this catastrophe, thought that the success of the original series and movie adaptations were do to swords, blood and ass. Furthermore, they arrogantly thought that fans would swallow the new series even if it was served with cheap, lazy, cheap, production and writing. Read roriconfan's... See full review

Fate/Zero

Dec 28, 2016

Better writers than me have raved about Fate/Zero before me, and more will do so after me. Same with worse writers. So I will be brief. Fate/Zero gives you several unique and multifaceted characters that engage the viewer's attention; it presents a concept that is familiar, but executes it with simplicity, rather than grasping at new ideas in an effort to be the most original but just becoming an unpleasant mess(i.e. Future diary/Hunger Games-type crap); it also has fantastic sound and visuals, and action that makes sense. My complaints are limited; some important characters are less interesting than... See full review

The Garden of Sinners Movie 3: Ever Cry, Never Life. (Remaining Sense of Pain)

Dec 28, 2016

Production value: check. Pretty much a miss otherwise. I have seen half the Garden of Sinners or Kara no Kyokai saga, and this was the worst yet. All the KNK movies are a lot of mystery, symbolism, and philosophy, but that doesn't automatically make it intelligent. Tsuukaku-zanryuu, movie 3, is an example of that. It relies on mature content that appeals to your senses of pity, shock, a little bit of fear. The superpower beat down that ends this installment of KNK feels out of place, like forced fan service. Which is a shame because the mc's powers are manifested more clearly than previous movies, and put... See full review

Eden of the East

Aug 19, 2016

After finishing episode 11 of Eden of the East, I asked myself: "What was my reason for watching this show?". Was it because I enjoyed Terror in Resonance? Was it because I didn't hate Future Diary and gag at the mention of its name? Or could it be because I wanted to watch Death Note, but dont want to commit to 30+ episodes right now? By all accounts, I was disapointed by Eden of the East. Maybe the biggest problem with this show is the grievous identity crisis that lasts through its entirety. In Episode one, the mc, Takizawa, compares himself to Jason Bourne, as he has... See full review

D.Gray-man Hallow

Jul 6, 2016

Episode 2-8 update: Wow people. I have turned a 180. After being suckered in by a great pilot, I was forced to sit through what is essentially a semi-gothic, demonhunt Dragonball, with never-ending multi-episode battles, shit dialogue(seriously bad shit), zero(and i emphatically stress zero) character building, and a story going in so many directions that I doubt even the makers know the point of the show. I hate being a wet blanket, but some parades need to be rained out. D.Gray Man Hallow has none of the aspects that kept me watching the original for 103 episodes.  Main characters are being... The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance

Jul 4, 2016

I was not a fan of season 1 of Arslan Senki. I found the character development very unsatisfactory, and it felt too juvenile to be a good millitary anime. That being said, episode 1 of season 2 is very promising, and I look forward to seeing where Arslan Senki goes from here. Plus, it is evident that they got a real budget for the show as the animation is of a far better quality.

Devil May Cry

Jun 27, 2016

Devil May Cry is an appropriate name for this anime, as it would bore Satan himself to tears. Who could destroy an anime about a Half-Demon, Demon-Hunter for hire? Madhouse? Yes Even the mighty, untouchable Madhouse puts out crap anime to score some dough. The one reason Why I struggled through the longest 12 episodes of my life, was Dante. The mc is cool, I will give DMC that much. There are a few good moments in this anime when Dante nonchalantly whips out the .45 to the sound of spanish guitars and make blood pudding. Other than that, Devil May Cry is a boring, crappy, episodic mess that feels like the... See full review

Claymore

Jun 27, 2016

Claymore was an anime that I liked initially, until I came to a realization. A few episodes in I discovered that there was nothing to the story. The anime is essentially directionless until a final battle is slapped together topped off with pathos and an anti-climax. The premise and dark-fantasy setting aren't bad, Claymore just spends 26 episodes getting good without quite making it. The animation is surprisingly poor qulaity and choppy for a Moneyhouse...excuse me... Madhouse production. Initially, Claymore looked to be a Berserk-like anime. Claymore never held a candle to the mature yet... See full review

ERASED

May 14, 2016

Yet another anime inflated to incredible proportions by hype. Every year we have one. 2012 saw the sub-par Sword Art Online rise to fame. Attack on Titan stole the the show in 2013 with much well-deserved praise. 2015 had many hype-beast anime, but ERASED may be the biggest and the cause of the most passionate love/hate from fans. After watching Erased, I find it very difficult to assign a genre to it. While it draws several parallels to Steins;Gate (both are time-bending anime that focuses on characters and plot rather than action), the differences are too vast to compare the two too closely. Even the... See full review
