Berserk (2016)

Jan 4, 2017

I'm sorry to have wasted my time and the time of others who I convinced to jump on the berserk 2016 dick-I mean bandwagon. This is coming from a huge fan of the 97 series. Berserk 97 had a depth of characters, plot, and message, the likes of which are rare. You will find none of that depth in berserk 16. Those in charge of this catastrophe, thought that the success of the original series and movie adaptations were do to swords, blood and ass. Furthermore, they arrogantly thought that fans would swallow the new series even if it was served with cheap, lazy, cheap, production and writing. Read roriconfan's review if you want. He sums this one up perfectly. Or don't. Take my word, this is serving of steaming shit sandwich which you will either hate or pretend to like because of your love for the original.

Sidenote- I think it's worth noting that the 97 series and movies covered the Golden Age Arc only. If you don't know much about the manga, Golden Age is one of several arcs, each of massive size, that make up Berserk. From my occasional and sporadic reading of the manga, and general agreement from avid readers, Golden Age is the best arc. I believe the Golden Age is the pinnacle of Kentaro Miura's creative ability, and nothing else from his desk will hold a light to it. The Golden Age functions perfectly as a contained story(as long as you don't mind an unhappy but fitting ending). It can be reasoned that any more Berserk tv adaptations will be more trash. Sorry to burst the collective hype bubble of a Berserk Saga, but I believe it was one and done. My condolences for the death of your dreams.
