Inuyashiki: Last Hero

Apr 11, 2024

This is a hard one. For starters I will say that I strongly suggest everyone watch this, so dont get me wrong when I write something negative!
Inuyashiki is not an anime for children or teenagers. You have to be a certain age to understand the motivations of the characters.
Ill start with some negatives. The animation: doesnt look bad, but its very noticeable when they swap to full computer generated animation an like almost always, it doesnt look good. The melodrama is overplayed in certain scenes (feels like a typical Oscar-bait movie sometimes). The story is simple and mostly... See full review

Violet Evergarden

Apr 28, 2019

A tearjerker, but a beautiful piece of art nonetheless that you should definitely watch.  I had been putting off watching Violet Evergarden for some time now, but I am really happy that I finally found the time for it. I read some reviews and they tend to navigate towards the extremes. People either love it and give it 10/10 or hate it for being melodramatic and let's be honest, somewhat manipulative and downvote it. I think both are wrong.  It is true that Viole Evergarden is melodramatic. It is also true that the middle of the anime sort of becomes a "sad story of the week", but... See full review

Ajin: Demi-Human

Sep 9, 2017

Great anime with one big fault that almost ruins the experience.  Im pretty sure everyone guessed what that fault is.../ Story: Well above expectations. Reminds me mostly of Parasyte and not Tokyo Ghoul, thankfully. 8,5/10 Animation: Yeah...The 3d animation looks horrible as always, even though they did do a great job at the backgorunds and fight sequences. Overall 5/10. Unlike other shows (Sidonia), here, the story and characters compensate you enough to sufer through the animation.  Sounds: Really nice music. 8/10 Characters: Ive been waiting a long time for such cold and calculating main... Afro Samurai

Dec 28, 2016

Long time, no review.  Afro Samurai is a very stylish anime. Its has strong atmosphere. Not a bad watch, but a of shortcomings cause it to fade into mediocrity.  Story: The story is pretty typical for this style of semi-satyre anime. Simple revenge story. The big problem here is that they didnt define the limits of the Universe they created. Some animes have vague deifinitions, like Naruto with computers and ninjas in the same era, but here...It goes from medieval to immortal robots in a few episodes. I know its not supposed to be smart, its supposed to be bizarre and funny, but this is too over... See full review

Mob Psycho 100

Oct 9, 2016

When reviewing Mos Psycho 100, you can only do it having One Punch man also in your head. I dont consider One Punch Man as epic as many, its not the savior of anime, but its a lot of fun and I enjoyed all of it and would recommend it. I usually dont enjoy satire anime (Gintama), but I enjoyed OPM. With Mob Psycho we also get a comedy based, semi-satire anime. I say semi satire, because unlike OPM this one actually has a story thats surprisingly well written compared to the main theme.  Story: I wont spoiler anything, we also get a really op-character, but this time, hes actually struggling, trying to... Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Feb 18, 2016

Let me keep this short. The detail and work in the futuristic  vision, along with the action scenes in spectacular. The best I have ever seen. The show is composed of episodes that do not have a strong overall plot, we intead get a very episodic anime. The story is the individual episodes is very good and realistic involving politics and the military. You really need to pay attention. Its not one of the shows that will explain the same thing 5 times. It will tell you once, you either remeber everything, including the name and title of everyone or just wont be able to follow the story. This can be a... See full review

Millennium Actress

Jan 20, 2016

Kind of hard to rate this. As entertainment, its pretty good, not on par with Tokyo Godfathers, but as an artform: Well, I dont think it gets any better than this. The writing, directing, animation are all screaming proofs that anime is not just about money, but art. The sheer amount of simbolism in this anime is enough to fill 10 literature textbooks. Its hard to rate any of it because if I rate it as a critic, I wont find anything wrong with it. If I rate it for only entertainment, the score will be unfair. Negatives: Sometimes they kind of switch fast between the times and locations. I liked the... See full review

Perfect Blue

Jan 19, 2016

Kind of a hard call. Its pretty good, but falls short of my expectations. Psychology, dream-scenes, amnesia, hallucinations, these are all viable ideas for a thriller. But you need to find the correct balance. Here, I think they overdid it.  Story: First of all, the big reveal at the end is not a big reveal at all. Lets say that anyone who watches similar movies can guess most of whats happening and it doesnt come as a shock. My major complaint is that they overdid everything. An actress wont shoot a rape scene in her debut movie and wont pose nude. It just doesnt happen normally and it takes away... See full review

Tokyo Godfathers

Jan 19, 2016

Strap in! You have quite a ride ahead of you! Tokyo godfathers is a real masterpiece. I was originally reluctant to watch it because I didn’t like Paranoia agent at all (that’s an understatement), but they are not similar at all. While paranoia agent is repetitive uneventful and overall dull, Tokyo godfathers is so fast pace that instead of boredom, your problem will be to just process all the information you get. Story: it’s basically a dark comedy with psychological factors. Imagine the anime version of a Guy Ritchie movie. Some might get annoyed by the ridiculous amount of... See full review

PSYCHO-PASS: The Movie

Jan 7, 2016

One of the best animated movies I have ever seen.  I like the series. Its not on my top10 list, but I enjoyed it. The basic concept was good, accompanied by good visuals and characters. My biggest problem about the series was the lack of action. Let me elaborate: the action is there, but its pretty dull. Also it all goes down in Japan when we know that outside of Japan things are much more chaotic and probably more interesting.  Here, they gave a huge dose of both. The action is absolutely top-notch. You can see that they actually consulted with professionals when coreographing the fight... See full review

Boruto: Naruto the Movie

Jan 6, 2016

Ill be short: this movie far exceeded my expectations. The story is just there to be there, but the characters and character evolution is very well written and the fights scenes + music combo work perfectly. A very pleasant surpise for me.

King of Thorn

Jan 5, 2016

So, King of thorn. I honestly have no idea  how I found it in the first place, but since then it was gathering cyberdust in my watchlist. Finally got to watching it. It can be summed up in 2 words: wasted potential. This is only partly true though, since it did have some great moments, the atmosphere was awesome, but the animes shortcomings are just too annoying to look past. Story: basically its the anime version of your typical survivor-horror game which is a good thing. So the recipe is on spot. The plot-twists are also pretty good. Some will find them far-fetched, but it works(more or less). The... See full review

Ninja Scroll

Dec 10, 2015

About time I added this to my repertoire.  I dont really need to talk about basic story or style here. Its very dark(in colour and theme) its very japanese and its good.  its an old anime, but the amount of footage and ideas other shows stole from it throughout the years says a lot.  The nudity is necessary for the plot, the fights are pretty good(dont forget, were talking 1993. And overall I can recommend this. The animation hasnt aged well, but its still very stylish and pretty good. The music is very good. The charcaters, well, they are a bit stereotypical, but it still works pretty... See full review

Seraph of the End

Dec 2, 2015

Seraph of the end. Just another generic teen anime with monsters or does it actually have something to offer. Ill start with the negatives:  Originality: every major aspect of the story can be found in other anime, they didn’t really have any ideas that truly made me interested. We have the usual main hero with a lot of hidden power, which he cant control, we have Rukia from Bleach…oh, sorry, I mean Shinoa, we have Suzaku from Code Geass...make that Mikaela. Yeah. You get the point.  Action scenes:I kind of like them, but they are many times lacking paqce and movement. They... See full review

Akame ga Kill!

Nov 5, 2015

Akame ga Kill is actually one of the better animes of its genre. We get a lot of the basics: medieval times, assassins, supernatural weapons, etc… The series has a lot of promise, they have very good ideas and in some cases they actually come through really well. It has some downsides to it also. Story: The basic plot is pretty good, nothing is black or white(almost nothing). The good guys are killing for the greater good, the bad guys are doing what they are ordered to do. I like this twist to the usual black and white theme. The problems arise when we get down to the details. I have 2 big... See full review

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls

Oct 26, 2015

Rules of a survival horror: 1. Stay together 2. Dont split up 3. Both of the above mentioned. Corpse party is basically a survival horror. This means it suffers from the same miskates survival horrors do, but it also has a lot of the positives of one. A huge positive would be the story. They have a good number of plot-twists and they are actually good. If it wasnt for the horror part, Corpse party would actually be a good mistery anime. Another plus would be the very good but exaggerated(this is also a negative) visuals and sounds. Negatives include the stupidity of the characters and SPOILER... See full review

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion

Oct 22, 2015

They went so deep they got lost in the dark. So. I didnt like the series too much(not a mecha/whimpy character fan), but it was OK, not counting the disgrace of an ending it had. I had a lot of second thoughts(and third and forth and so on) about watching the replacement ending.  To my surprize it actually starts out decent, a lot of action, strong pictures, darkness. Some scenes are among the most poweful ones in existence. And now the sad, confusing part: But nothing makes sense. Its just a random slideshow of pictures so artistic that I now need a few shots of Jagermeister to clear the bullshit... See full review

Gangsta.

Oct 17, 2015

This was the anime I was waiting for the most this year. It looked like a more modern take of stories like Black Lagoon. These kinds on animes can be really good sometimes, other times they lack in many departments. So how was Gangsta? Kind of a roller-coaster ride. One of the best intros ever, a very good atmosphere that combines darkness, hopelessness with the occasional humor. Some very well coreographed fights scenes and very strong pictures, but other times the fight scenes become mediocre slasher-scenes of the likes of Tokyo Ghoul and such.  Story: I have to compare it to Black Lagoon... The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Oct 8, 2015

A very pleasant surprize. With the best anime, you usually have a story that is somewhat unique. This implies some amount of supernatural. Arslan Senki doesnt have a special story in this way. Its pretty simple. Anime like this usually fade into boredom or go apeshit mad and ruin everything like Berserk.  What is Arslan Senki? Well, to get the full picture, imagine FMA, Game of Thrones, Avatar: The last airbender and Berserk(not the last episodes, instead the good part) put together. How can you go wrong?! RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne

Let me enumerate the phases I went through watching Mnemosyne. 1. Ok, story looks stupid, but lets give it a chance 2. Great animation, good music, wonderful fight scenes and the actually realize the story is stupid, so they dont really do anything with it, thank god 3. Ok. Im starting to be concerned, looks like they actually want to unfold a background story 4. Goddamnit, why did they need to fuck up something good... So. Mnemosyne. The Seven Deadly Sins

Sep 24, 2015

A pretty shameful copy of Fairy Tail. This anime, although you can have fun with it completely lacks any tipe of originality. Plot: A girl from royalty is looking for some very powerful warriors and meets one by chance in a bar who turns out to be the strongest one. These warriors have tattoos and everyone has a different magic ability. The girl looks weak initially but turns out the be very strong. She usually wears revealing clothes and has big boobs. We also have a very powerful giant. Does this ring a bell? Its basically the same plot as Fairy Tail and the ripoff doesnt end here. Listen to the music... See full review

Sep 22, 2015

How would you react to robotic AI reaching a level when they actually develop emotions? How would others? Will society ever be ready for such a thing?  These are basically the most important quetions of this short-series.  Psychological anime and overly artistic anime are usually pretty damn boring. So what happens here? Ill be honest, an anime like this should be short. Analysing different views is intiguing, but only to a certain point and after that it becomes boring. Truth be told I get bored pretty easy(you hear that Serial Experiments Lain?).So I think that chosing not to make this into... See full review

School-Live!

Sep 18, 2015

Where to start? Maybe at the beginning, Einstein! If I have to... So, first episode. I dont think I will create much of a spoiler if I tell you, to expect a twist in the end of it. Most people already know about it. But I may surprize some if I say that the first episode was horrible. It was probably the worst anime episode I have seen since I have been methodically chosing what to watch. The animation is cheap, the humor is very bad, the characters are annoying as hell. I managed to watch the first episode in 2 hours. And the worst part is that I was actually prepared for a bad episode.  It... See full review

The Last: Naruto the Movie

Sep 15, 2015

Im pretty sure that all Naruto fans want to see when Naruto finally realizes his feeling towards Hinata and the two get together.  This is what this movie is about. And also there is some story thingy about the Moon falling from the sky and people on the moon who have Byakugan, etc.  Story: Hard to say. If I actually think about it, its pretty damn bad. The whole plot is random and unexplained, so I dont like the plot. The moments with Naruto and Hinata though...Those are actually very well written and accompanied with spectacualr visuals. Kaze no Stigma

Sep 13, 2015

Overall score of less than 4. Thats usually not a good sign here. So it took me some time to sit down and watch this. Story: Basic stuff, no need for further explanation, its a simple action anime with mediocre length (4-5-6) episodes long plotlines and a few fillers. The humor in the fillers is pretty good, the main plot is acceptable. We have a few plotholes, but you have to accept the anime for what it is. The story is secondary, the action is important. 6/10 Animation: Low buget, simple. The action scenes are not bad, so it works pretty well, but its not a great spectacle. 6/10 Music: better than... Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

Sep 9, 2015

This one I only watched, because it got so many positive reviews everywhere. Judging by the title it looked mediocre and after reading the story, it looked even worse.  So how did it work out? Well, at the start it is just bad, plain old, simple BAD. Why is it bad? Because it is about the exazct same thing the title says. Want to compare it to something? Here you are: Sword art! Now that starts out good. I thought about stopping this like 100 times in the first 3 episodes, but it was obvious that among the ridiculous amount of stupid, it actually has some potential at least to be a good passing of... Kids on the Slope

Sep 5, 2015

Let me start with: this anime is a bit too emotional, idyllic for my taste, so the score to give maxes out at about 8. This is an anime about musci, friendship, the sometimes ridiculous hardship for a kid to control and get to understand his own feelings.  Its one of my fiances favorites and I can understand why.  If you like the darker side of anime(and here I dont mean echhi and shit like that, but animes like Death Note and collegues), this is a genre-mix that will probably not appeal to you all that much. But from a critics point of view, its not flawles, but its the one that comes... See full review

I dont watch music anime too often. To be honest, the only real music anime I have watched thus far is Your lie in april. So the bar is pretty damn high.  I dont want to talk too much about the basic plot. Its simple, but has potential. The creators realized what they have and didnt want more. This is a very friendly anime about school life, about the problems that kids encounter, which look minuscule with the eye of an adult.  Sometimes I felt the need of a stronger plot, but the anime is very short, so Ill give them a pass.  -Dear creators, conflict is a good thing. Natsume's Book of Friends

Jul 8, 2015

There is such a thing as too friendly. Let me start with a little analogy with Mushishi. So when I first saw Mushishi I wasnt too impressed with its calm and friendly style and episodic storyline. Now I consider Mushishi a good alternative to realxing drugs. Natsume Yuujinchou is very similar to Mushishi. The story is episodic, altough we have a weak overall plot that somewhat evolves, but nothing special. The anime is very calming with high artistic value. The biggest problem that compared to Mushishi, it just feels inferior in every way. With Mushishi we have very creative and captivating episodes and... See full review
