Episode 1-12 Review I've never liked people who submit reviews for an anime before it's finished airing, yet here I am, reporting in after the first cour. Bear with me. I'm tired of in medias res intros. Opening episode one with a segment of the most exciting scene from the first cour comes across as more of a shallow business card from A-1 Pictures than anything else, a sort of plea to the audience of, "Look, we're gonna be dark and serious and flashy just like Ufotable!" It does not speak well for the quality of the writing you are about to present when your opening hook is the climactic... See full review

Let me explain why this short OVA is good. It's good precisely because there is not a full season anime that it is accompanying. School romcoms are a dime a dozen. School-age romcoms that deviate from the school setting are less common, but still fairly prevalent. Yonkoma adaptations are uncommon altogether, and Cute Girls Doing Cute Things are sadly the fewest in number from among these groups. Regardless of the specific genres, structures and story threads each of these series follow, they have one major thing in common: predictability. That predictability stems from an inherent lack of uniqueness... See full review

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Movie I: The Empty Battlefield

Apr 30, 2016

Gundam SEED has a very special place in my heart. Not only was it one of the first anime I watched, but it was the first war philosophy anime, the second mecha anime, and the first Gundam anime I saw. It told me a story I hadn't heard before, showed me fights I hadn't seen before, and bonded me with characters that were new to me. My feelings for Gundam SEED are rooted heavily in nostalgia, and I've rewatched it several times to hammer the point in. To date, I still consider Gundam SEED to be one of the better war anime I've seen, and I would recommend it to any Gundam fan. Gundam SEED Destiny, in... See full review

I hate flowery intros, so let's just get into it. Nisekoi is a harem romcom, duh. But it's somewhat satisfying that its assigned genre - harem romcom - is actually what this show is, 100%; it's about 70% rom and 30% com, with literally nothing else sprinkled in. Most romcoms are uncleverly disguised as fantasy, sci-fi or slice-of-life via the facades of school clubs, battles, antagonists or an ongoing plot. But here we are, in our plotless and largely storyless romcom with not a single silly school club to distract us, and so we can focus on the three factors that matter the most in these types of shows... Me! Me! Me! Chronic

May 20, 2015

Me!Me!Me! was good. Better than good. Before I first watched it, I brushed it aside as mere fanservice pandering and 2deep4u bait, but then I saw who produced it: Studio Khara and Hideaki Anno. So I gave it a shot, and I loved it. It told a sad story about a guy who screwed up and the endless repetitive cycle his life had fallen into. The video also made some sweeping comentaries about otaku, fanservice, and anime as a whole. Plus the music was done by Teddyloid (ehh) and Daoko (awesome), and the song changed genres and styles at several points to better reflect the tone and mood of the video. Good... See full review
