As I was reading this, I felt a slight sense of discomfort and unease. Which I'm sure is the aura the author was going for. It's not gory or frightening or even surprising; it's just subtly creepy. I kept finding myself thinking of this faceless shadow person as the true nature of imaginary friends, which for some reason made it feel that much more disturbing. Perhaps because I started imagining all the children who are falsely believing they are friends with these uncaring creatures and I felt frightened for them.
