Hot-guy Sanae looks dumb, and isn't drawn well to look attractive. Maybe he's supposed to be the brooding type of cool guy that makes all the girls swoon, but he just looks lethargic and dead-eyed to me. As a character, he's often nothing more than a prop. The girl characters are drawn better, though.
The story's main hook is Azuki's character. She's an incompetent ninja-in-training on a bodyguard mission, clumsy and lacking in common sense but gung-ho about her duty (partially because she fantasizes about a romance developing with the supposedly attractive guy she's guarding). The recurring joke involves her accidentally knocking Sanae unconscious--harming him while protecting him from harm--and him having a near-death experience and chatting with his dead grandma from the other side of the river of death. Her fumbling can be pretty cute/funny, so it's a bit disappointing that this gag didn't take center stage in her every confrontation. Also, I don't really think the inclusion of the three marriage prospects did anything to strengthen the story.
