These aren't stories with happy endings. I wouldn't say they're exactly tragedies either, though. It's more just that they portray a jaded perspective--a position of tempered happiness, nihilism, and disillusionment. Sexuality plays a role throughout. And almost always, sex is portrayed as a distraction from the parts of life which can be difficult to cope with emotionally. It's a relief valve. And human relationships are portrayed as a way to keep yourself sane and to prevent you from getting overly worn down. But the most interesting thing is that having sex and developing relationships isn't necessarily portrayed in a positive way. It kinda-sorta is at times, but it's also portrayed with some implicit negativity--where it distracts people from their goals or what they had previously found important (though whether those things should actually be considered important or not is another question which is implicitly raised).

I dunno. I enjoyed this collection of stories. There's some variety to the settings. They can be a bit humorous and weird and even endearing. It's perhaps a bit artsy at times in how it throws in single panels of flashbacks and doesn't always explain what's going on and how it seems to have and simultaneously lack an underlying point. The artwork isn't the best, but I do appreciate the amount of effort put into populating the backgrounds with clutter and details.
