Adolte and Adarte

In the opening panels, we see an almost bowl-like view of the tower walls from the inside. This is then paralleled with the fish-eye distorted view of the desert landscape in the final panel. I like how that small detail within the artwork helps reinforce the change from a position of being closed in to a position of openness and freedom. Obviously, there was the physical confinement, but the characters could also be seen as going from a position of being trapped in the roles assigned to them to a position of forging their own destinies. And furthermore, the blue-eyed one can also be viewed as being trapped by feir emotional baggage, by feir feelings of jealousy and resentment, which is then juxtaposed with the purple-eyed one's complete lack of emotional baggage. In fact, I think the purple-eyed one's lack of spite and pettiness is perhaps the greatest turn of this story. Far too often, stories with such clear wrongdoing in the beginning like to wrap things up with some poetic justice, some retributive justice, so it felt like a nice change of pace seeing kindness and forgiveness being used instead.
