Wolf Children

Nov 29, 2022

[Secret Santa 2022] Wolf Children has been on my to-watch list for quite a long time now but still, I barely knew anything going in. It ended up being very different from what I vaguely expected but I definitely enjoyed it. Since the story takes place over many years, I especially appreciated how well the pacing worked. I feel like a little more time to get attached to certain characters could have been useful, but considering the film format, I don't think I really have to complain about what I got. It was heartwarming and sometimes quite sad, though it didn't make me cry, and a perfectly rewatchable for... See full review

Heaven Official's Blessing

Dec 22, 2021

[Secret Santa 2021] I wasn't entirely sure what to expect with this pick but I had high hopes that were definitely fulfilled!  This was easily one of the best anime under the BL tag I have ever watched. The storyline was really interesting and full of amazing plot twists. Seeing the relationship between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng grow into such a tender one on top of the whole story was a true blessing. It was exciting, heartwarming, and kept me at the edge of my seat most of the time!  The soundtrack also managed to be nerve-wracking and beautiful at the exact right times and I really... Kids on the Slope

Dec 7, 2021

[Secret Santa 2021]  Out of all three recommendations I received, this anime seemed the most interesting to me right now. And I was right to trust my gut on that! This is one of the most beautiful love stories about friendship and music that I have ever watched. I couldn't get enough of the characters and it's incredible how, even after pushing each other away and letting loneliness take over multiple times, they always find their way back to each other through music. Despite not playing any music, it felt relatable and it made it the perfect comfort story. The friendship that Kaoru and... See full review

Stars Align

Dec 27, 2019

They really did this anime dirty, huh?  Hoshiai no Sora is most likely one of my favourite anime of 2019 and has earned its spot at the top of my favourite sports anime list. I'm not a huge fan of sports but this is simply a masterpiece. Dealing with domestic abuse and LGBT+ themes, it could have easily been the most popular anime of the season. But it wasn't. Sports anime fans, don't sleep on this show, please! This anime, like any good one, can warm your heart only to rip it out right after. The characters grew on me quickly and seeing how bad some have it, you just want to crawl into your screen... See full review

Kino's Journey

Dec 23, 2019

I thought Kino's Journey was beautifully done. I've watched the first episodes and it had this nostalgic vibe to it that is really hard to explain. I can easily see why people give it such a high score. As much as it intrigued me, I suppose I just started watching it at the wrong moment. It felt a bit too slow and as I am currently craving more flashy art style, this just wasn't doing it for me. The one thing that actually put me off that wasn't time-based was the melancholy factor. I just don't seem to be a fan of that.  I might try to watch again in the future but for now, I sadly have to drop... See full review

Kumamiko: Girl Meets Bear

Dec 15, 2019

This was the second anime recommended to me for Secret Santa!  I was incredibly excited to watch this since it looked very cute and just overall enjoyable to watch. In a way, my expectations were met - it was rather cute. The first minutes of the first episode had me laughing quite a bit and I loved the entire concept. However, by the end of the first episode, I felt rather ... disturbed. I was hoping that feeling would go away but it really didn't. Throughout the entire anime, I kept cringing at having 14-years old Machi being surrounded by an overprotective bear (especially after the... See full review

Akame ga Kill!

Dec 8, 2019

This was the first anime that was recommended to me for Secret Santa and man, ... what even was that? I absolutely loved the characters. Well, all except Tatsumi. I have rather conflicted feelings about him since he reminds me of way too many other male anime protagonists I've seen before. But the others were so cool. It even made me root for the enemies, which says a lot about how well built the characters were. Especially Esdeath, I was absolutely in love with her! But well, it's a crying shame that nearly everyone had to die. The plot was okay, although I feel like it was dragging on a bit at... See full review
