Astarotte's Toy EX

Nov 15, 2014

Astarotte no Omocha EX is the sequel to the terrible ecchi anime. For details on everything but the story and overall conclusion, please see my review on the original series. Story 3 mini stories. The first is Asuha recording everyones underwear (panties) for some research and then using them to hatch a dragon eggg in a panties nest. The second is how Lotte met her bodyguard Zelda. And the third is the story of when Mercelida met and banged Naoya, just before she became the queen. Conclusion At least the absudity is... See full review

Astarotte's Toy

Nov 15, 2014

Lotte no Omocha AKA Astarotte's Toy is an ecchi fantasy anime about a 10YO tsundere succubus that hates men. Instant fail. But wait there's decent backstory to explain it. Seinen? Nope, aimed at adolescent boys and has no complexity to the story. Romantic comedy? Nope. Father doesn't love the mother of his daughter and I didn't laugh once. This anime is absolutely shocking, in a bad way and takes nothing seriously. Who is it aimed at? I said adolescent boys a second ago, but they'd find porn much more interesting than this. I had to drink for this one, especially as ecchi is my most hated genre along with... See full review

Eureka Seven

Nov 13, 2014

Eureka Seven is an 50 episode action-packed sci-fi shonen anime, featuring mechas. Though after watching it, I would think that it should be defined as seinen, due to the bat-shit crazy story. And I say that in a good way. It has so many problems and there are lots I hate about it, but overall it is a great anime. I'd recommend this to anybody, but be prepared for shit to piss you off. Which IMO, I mean some of the characters. I had no trouble watching all 50 episodes and I'm someone who struggles with long anime. Animation The animation quality is top-notch for a 2005 anime, you can get this on blu-ray... See full review

Ladies Versus Butlers!

Nov 7, 2014

Ladies vs Butlers... I have a personal philosophy in that I cannot judge an anime before having watched it, but this is one anime where it is exactly as I expected it. Heck it's worse. I'm glad I got drunk for this one. LVB is NOT A SEINEN, but is an ecchi harem anime aimed at adolescent boys and anyone with the mindset of one. Even for that audience, they're better off watching porn or something. At this point, my opinion of harem ecchi is so low and harem ecchi anime are so similar in lacking story, that I'd double this anime's score if it broke the trope and there is a conclusion to the harem. Is this... See full review

Air in Summer

Nov 4, 2014

This summer special further explores the flashback backstory from the main series. The events are set during the middle of episode 8, so if one wants to watch thhis alongside, I'd suggest watching this after episode 8. This follows the day to day life and comedic escapades of Kanna and her guardians Uruha and Ryuya during their journey to find Kanna's mother. And of course this is set during summer. Watch this if you enjoyed/are enjoying the main Air anime series. For both sound and animation please see my original review. Air

Nov 3, 2014

Air is a chilled out drama romance anime, with aspects of supernatural fantasy. I got major Clannad and Kanon vibes. This anime is a lot like Clannad IMO, think the supernatural aspect of that anime, but more. IMO, only people with bad taste could hate this anime, especially after watching all of it. Perhaps it is for a more tasteful and mature audience? I honestly found little to hate about this and it was less boring than other, more story-driven action-packed anime. My eyes were peeled to the screen at all times. This is a lot like Clannad and if you're wondering which, I mean both. Animation

Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase

Oct 30, 2014

Tsuyokumi -Moon Phase- is a 26 episode anime about vampires featuring action and comedy. Initial impressions were all over the place. I thought it was a horror, then an ecchi and the intro really didn't help, but it's none of those things. It's a decent watch actually, feel free to try it. And that comes from someone who is very cynical and critical about anime. This actually made me laugh my face off, it can definitely be funny. Bonus: No highschools. It can however be boring at times and there was much about this that infuriated me, like the intro. And some aspects of characters and the story. But overall... See full review

Kämpfer

Oct 27, 2014

Kampfer is a typical harem ecchi in a high school setting, where the main character can transform into a girl. Ugh, I hate this genre, so I sat down with a few drinks. While it is action and has a story, it is terrbly cheesy and full of tropes. But at least it still has a story unlike other anime, even if it's shit. A terrible story is better than nothing. Otherwise I'd advise avoiding this anime, despite a bit of subtext on the whole theme of love. It is the usual pointless harem anime however, where nothing really happens. Oh and while it is 14 episodes, episode 12 is an extra filler that has nothing to... See full review

11eyes

Oct 25, 2014

11eyes is a fantasy action anime with minimal ecchi elements, in the usual done-to-death highschool setting. I hate ecchi, so I prepared myself with some booze expecting the worst. Despite my low expectations, this anime actually appeared to have a proper plot and a therefore reason to watch it. The start is slow and lacking but it picks up, so don't drop it early. Give this a try if you like this genre/type of story and don't mind a little ecchi. And even if you don't, then at least try the soundtrack which is the best bit. It really isn't half bad. NAKAIMO: My little sister is among them!

Oct 22, 2014

Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouta ga Iru (Nakaimo) is a harem, ecchi anime mystery about a guy trying to find out which of a group of girls is his younger sister. The possibility that one could be his sister, is getting in the way of a goal, from his mother, that he must get a girlfriend to eventually marry. I prejudged this anime, due to my severe dislike for the genre. And I promised myself that I would give it more than 1 if it at least revealed who the sister was. Nakaimo has too many problems, an initially fragile story and having too many terrible trope features of the genre. I actually got bored and ended... See full review

Elfen Lied: In the Passing Rain

Oct 20, 2014

The first half of this OVA seems like an alternate reality extra, but in truth the events of this OVA occur between episode 10 and 11, so try and watch it between them if you can. The first half of this OVA while not terrible, felt kind of pointless. But the latter half really shines through and provides some much needed backstory with some flashback. And that latter half is what makes this worth watching. I don't really need to say more. Though minor spoilers concerning one name that is mentioned. This OVA is also only in Japanese, so subtitles are a must. For the usual things like animation, sound... See full review

Elfen Lied

Oct 18, 2014

Before watching Elfen Lied, I expected it to be a terrible cliche ecchi story of some dude trying to harbour a murderous chick. But boy was I wrong. This is by all means a serious seinen psychological anime, with aspects of sci-fi and mystery. I don't feel right saying this is an ecchi genre, since this anime is not at all perverted and is very serious, despite all the nudity. It bravely chooses to successfully explore some very controversial themes and given the right changes, it could have been a horror anime. I will say this now, this anime isn't childfriendly and not because of the nudity either. I... See full review

Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka Hardcore

Oct 15, 2014

Hardcore my ass. If you're expecting nudity you won't find it here. Though just as well it isn't hardcore, otherwise it would literally be porn (hentai). But it isn't. Just a shit tonne of panty shots and pervy shit. Nothing actually happens. On multiple occasions, the girls try to make things intimate with Junichi. But obviously he is a coward harem protagonist so he'd rather run away than say, get a blowjob by his big-boobed childhood friend. Nobody sleeps with him, which would be the only thing to improve this crap. Among the most pointless OVAs, why would anyone watch this? Oh and I didn't even notice... See full review

Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka

Oct 15, 2014

Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka is 12 episodes of a typical ecchi-harem anime. Once again, I'll state I hate those genres/combination of genres and that will affect this review. So, you'd expect me to now tell you that this is a typical ecchi harem anime. It is. HOWEVER, towards the end things get a little interesting, if only for the one fact that it literally confronts the harem genre for what is possibly its biggest problem. And it makes you think, or gives you hope. that this might be a bit different. Feel free to watch the first few episode and then skip to the last three, since the others are typical filler/... Oct 13, 2014

Grenadier, an action packed ecchi anime that actually has a story. And a very interesting story at that. It follows the adventures of a female Senshi (gunman) called Rushina and her samurai partner Yajiro. Due to the interesting plot and philosophies of the characters, I really wanted to like and enjoy this anime. I would have done a drunk marathon for this, going by the outward appearance alone, but I was Ill that weekend. This anime unfortunately falls victim to the terrible tropes and typical ecchiness that plagues many anime. If you can look past these, then enjoy. But otherwise, I was frustrated at... Lunar Legend Tsukihime

Oct 11, 2014

Lunar Legend Tsukihime is a Seinen anime about vampires with aspects of mystery, set in the modern day Japan. To start, all I knew about this anime, was that the same people who made Fate: Stay Night made this one and I love the Fate series. It was fairly satisfying, especially on the mystery and story fronts which I was worried would be bad, since a few people were complaining about it. By all means, watch and enjoy this short anime series. The animation was done fairly well for a 2003 anime and had that familar style from Fate: Stay Night. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien ~Next Season~

Oct 9, 2014

Can the already amazing Kimi Ga Nozomu Eiein get any better? I'll say this now, on its own, this OVA isn't worth it. But in addition, to the main series, it enhances the story and is a must watch. Not necessarily because it's good, but it gives the viewer more to think about. This provides an alternate (true?) ending to Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, which already had a decent, if somewhat unexpected ending. Takayuki chooses Haruka over Mitsuki. To all who loved the original, I recommend watching this. There will be spoilers in this review, as I will assume everyone has watched the original. Which is a must in the... See full review

Rumbling Hearts

Oct 7, 2014

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is a dramatic, romance anime (with tragic elements) that far exceeds expectations. I was in a bad mood since the last anime I watched was School Days, which is nothing like this anime! Not only did this make me feel much better, but it reminded me that I love romance anime, when they are done right like this. This is the definitive romance anime! It also does something that few other animes do (I can't think of any bar DBZ) and it even does it properly: passing of long time. This anime contains mature themes and those of a younger audience may find it boring/soppy. Due to the rapid plot... See full review

School Days

Oct 5, 2014

School days is an ecchi harem* anime that is very different. This is the opposite of all those other terrible harem anime, as it actually has a story. A lot of people hate it, not cos it's bad, its actually decent. Reason: since the characters affect the story, it goes in a certain direction. Kinda like an action plot where the villian wins and enslaves the world. There were a lot of shocking moments. The mature themes of this anime certainly do not suit the high school setting and it reminds me of TV soap operas, which are terrible. If you watch this, watch all the way to the end. The moral of the story is... See full review

Final Approach

Sep 29, 2014

First off, I am very upset that this anime has been incorrectly tagged as seinen. The nature of the Final Approach anime does not justify such a tag, while it does touch on subjects like privacy, arranged marriage and political marriage. From first impresssions, it seems to be a run-of-the-mill ecchi harem anime. Once again, those are my least favourite genres. I will do my best to give this a proper review as every anime deserves, whether good or bad. It doesn't seem to be a harem, more of a love triangle, for most of it. Off the mark, I can tell this anime has no plot for most of it and it has the trope... See full review

FLCL

Sep 29, 2014

Furi Kuri certainly is 6 episodes of an Seinen, Sci-Fi, random WTF-just-happened kind of anime. While it is highly praised, I'll say it now, this anime won't be to everyone's tastes. It can also be difficult to understand and there is no obvious coherency to the story. Most would find it too boring. It's a refined taste like Whiskey, hence why it is a Seinen. It's like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it. Despite being part of the target audience, I didn't enjoy it initially. Did it get any better? Animation Animation is top notch. Majikoi: Oh! Samurai Girls!

Sep 28, 2014

Majikoi is a 12 episode anime about military power, fighting and a hint of politics. Unfortunately this also fits into the bloated ecchi-harem genre, one that I hate with a passion. And I won't let this one get away either, however, this anime happens to be better than the average ecchi-harem. Though that doesn't take much. The music is top-notch so give the OST a go, if you don't watch this one. I also actually laughed during the first 6 episodes, though that might have had something to do with my attempt at drunk marathon-ing this anime. It still contains the terrible ecchi-harem tropes. Weiss Survive R

Sep 27, 2014

Weiss Survive R is the sequel to to Weiss Survive, the anime about the Weiss Schwarz card game. Like its prequel, it is a very short anime, each episode is 150 seconds long but this time, there are only 12 episodes, so the whole thing only lasts 30 minutes. This time there is more ecchi bullshit and personally, I can't stand the ecchi genre. I'll say this now, there are better ways to spend half an hour. Unlike the original this is more random and the story is whackier. Since this is a continuation, I might as well quote myself from the review of the original. For both animation and sound: "...The... Weiss Survive

Sep 27, 2014

Weiss Survive is based on a real life card game going by the name of Weiss Schwarz (translates to white black in German). So in other words, this is another card game anime? The 16, very short episodes total roughly 40 minutes and the anime is of course themed on card battle, ecchi and comedy (at least it tries to). For 40 minutes, it seems to have a straightforward story, but is it worth that time? ...Eh, it's 40 minutes of not a funny, to the point plot with ecchi. Perhaps not. Looking Up At the Half-Moon

Sep 27, 2014

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is a 6 episode romance anime set in a hospital. At first glance, this appears to be touching, gentle story about a potentially tragic romance. However, it wasn't the tear-jerking anime I expected and not necessarily because of the story, but a good deal due to the characters. Is this worth the 2.5 hours it takes to watch? Credits are also story spoilers, so leave them out until the last episode. Animation Animation is average, it could be better done for its time. Nothing really stands out about the style. SoniAni: Super Sonico The Animation

Sep 26, 2014

This anime is not at all what it appears to be. SoniAni: Super Sonico The Animation is a music, slice of life (no overall story) anime with a realistic, gentle feel to it. This anime isn't a real ecchi, which I'll explain in this review. Due to my low expectations I sat down to the first episode with a beer. After realising what it really was, I decided to watch the rest of the series sober. Younger viewers would probably find this boring after being hooked with the apparent 'ecchi' tag and the same could be said for most guys in general. That may explain the low ratings, after all I bet the people who... See full review

Mayoi Neko Overrun! Specials

Sep 25, 2014

So Mayoi Neko Overrun! has specials? Despite being 6 episodes of (roughly) 210 seconds each, are they worth your time? Genre can only be ecchi, there is nothing else to this. Even if you watched and enjoyed the anime, there is nothing for you here. It is literally a montage of random scenes. Only ecchi and overall, you can tell it tries to be funny. Does it succeed in doing so?  Animation quality is good, there is some chibi style bits. However the contents of what they animate are not great. I'll give this an ok score only for the chibi addition, which I didn't notice in the original series. Sound is... See full review

"There is only enough happiness on the plate for one"                                  - Nozomi Kiriya, MNO A quote from this anime and one very relevant to the harem genre. Tsuyokiss: Cool x Sweet

Tsuyokiss Cool X Sweet is 12 episodes about Sunao Konoe, a high school student who hopes to start a drama club at her school. This anime is within the genres of ecchi, romance and SPOILER< love-triangle >SPOILER.  There are quite a few references to Romeo and Juliet, especially as the story has a similar feeling. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this anime. I generally hate ecchi/harem (and anything similar) genres and that affect these reviews. But why was this not terrible? Baby Princess 3D Paradise 0 [Love]

Sep 23, 2014

Baby Princess 3D Paradise is a half hour OVA about a guy who has 19 sisters, on a holiday to both a river (ie Beach) and later, hotsprings. Yes 19 sisters. I'll explain the situation in the characters section. Needless to say, this is obviously going to be an ecchi anime with harem aspects, a common combination of the worst genres. Yes, I hate ecchi/harem, therefore this review will be affected by it. They try to add comedy, but I didn't laugh so I'd count out the comedy genre.
