Yuru Yuri San☆Hai!

Jan 30, 2022

Yuru Yuri’s three season run staggers to a close in 2015 after studio TYO Animations took up the reins from Doga Kobo. This slice-of-teen-life/shoujo-ai show also enjoyed an OVA and two TV specials in the same year which came some three years after season two ended. Given that Namori’s long-running manga continued for another 6 years we can only imagine that there is material for another two seasons. Please, no. Just leave it alone. Hopefully this one can be laid to rest now. It must have enjoyed quite the chemistry with its adoring fans but for the rest of us the show lacked any real spark or flair. What it did, it did very well. Yet when you realise it is nothing but a comic exploration of the lives of nine teenage girls (in a world where the male gender appears to not exist) then it is hard to maintain much enthusiasm for it. Not a single girly crush in the story has ever reached fruition into anything meaningful. The characters do nothing significant and there is no story. There is no great coming-of-age saga nor any surprise revelations. Season three didn’t expand the universe already established in seasons one and two. In the end, any truly discerning audience is left with the question: what is the point? Yuru Yuri just filled time in your TV schedule when there was vastly better programming available. It lacked substance and was completely forgettable. Season three didn’t even manage to be as funny as season one or two. It just drags on and on. It is really hard to think of one stand-out moment. It is hard to criticise a show like this as there is nothing specifically wrong with it. It just lacks any degree of sparkle. It was tedious leaving you looking at your watch. Find something better to do with your time.

krofire, I was always interested in the banner you use, the one with the girl wearing the gas mask.  Where does this gem come from?
