Kanojo ni Naru Hi

Jan 31, 2019

This was quite a surprisingly good read. The narrative is one of the most heart-warming romances I've come across, yet it's not so over the top as to be unbeleiveable.

Story: Excellent through and through. Every panel felt like it held importance to the story, and the pacing was brilliant in almost every scene. My only complaints are: a) It gets a bit hard to tell what is or isn't a flashback, which can make a few scene transitions feel jarring, and b) every chapter opened by explaining the process of Emergence again, which got annoyingly repetitive. Other than that, it's a stunningly beatuful romance with plenty of plot that brings a greater level of story than just the romance aspect itself.

Art: This is the weakest point of the series. The character designs and settings do look quite beautiful, but sadly the detail was quite lacking in most panels with an incredible amount of empty space. Furthermore, there are a handful of sequences where it gets a bit hard to tell what's going on because the art gets unruly. Despite that, whatever is drawn in a panel does look quite nice.

Characters: Adorable and believable main characters with loads of backstory and motivation. The side characters could have used a bit of work, but their importance in the story mainly serves to drive drama or plot elements into the MCs lives so it's understandable that some of them feel a bit stunted in terms of development.

Overall: An absolutely adorable read that doesn't overstay its welcome, but takes the time it needs to flesh out the world and main characters. If you're looking for a romance story with a plot, you've come to the right place.

Side note: There is a "Nudity" tag on this one, but don't expect anything raunchy at all. There's a grand total of I think 2 or 3 panels that show nipples, and even then they're pretty low-detail. If you're here for naughty bits, you'll be disappointed.

8/10 story
6/10 art
8/10 characters
7/10 overall
