So starting with the nuts and bolts.  The animation is only ok.  The music is good, but the audio levels flux a bit.

Most of the characters are pretty generic and straightforward.   You main fight has suffered a loss and had lost all hope for the future but the maiden brings him out of it.  You have a scrappy sidekick that wants to be a warrior but is pretty useless.  A guide who seems pointless but is pulling more strings than expected.  And an overly logical medic who is really not all that interesting other than to be some fan service.  Kumi the maiden is the only one who experiences real growth in the show character wise, but that more to do with her being a blank slate at the start.  

The storyline starts out like its gonna be your basic adventure, but then starts into one big twist after another, and by the time you hit the cliffhanger at the end you feel like you might understand it all but I feel like that isn't really the case.

Being a cliffhanger ending it hope for a second season, or maybe a short ova or movie the wrap it all up as so much is left wide open, mainly cause I hate when stories don't get finished.  But only time will tell if we will get that.
